cure for hairing impaired?

Will we ever have cure for hairing impaired? If so, when? i don't think i can hang on like this anymore. The pressure inside is building up, I will explode. I know birds lose their hearing from time to time but it isn't a problem to them. The hairs in their ear can grow back naturally for them. Why isn't this possiple for humans?

how do you people survive in life with this invisible disibility if you only have mild hearing impaired where you don't fit anywhere but in between.
 
Minoxidil (Rogaine) and finasteride (Propecia) have both been shown to be clinically effective in the treatment of hairing impairment.
 
Deafness88, have you gone to audiologist to have your hearing tested? The hearing aid store can suggest which hearing aid would work the best for you. The better term for mild hearing loss/impairment would be hard of hearing. There is organization called SHHH (self help hard of hearing) for people who are dealing with hearing loss that usually is not in deaf community at that time. Some eventually joined deaf community though. There is website for shhh at: www.shhh.org When you are browsing in that website, click on chapters then click on the state that you live in to find where they have meetings. I went to SHHH out of curiousity and they talked about dealing with their hearing loss and they suggested on how to deal with it, get information about devices, etc. That organization had helped a lot of people.
I went there a few more times to participate in bingo games and to mingle with people to get them to know deaf people in the community like me. If you go to SHHH, you might meet some people who have same degree of hearing loss that you have and become friends...it would be great! In deaf community, there are many people with wide variety of hearing loss. Some are hard of hearing and can still use the telephone, some have medium hearing loss and some have very severe hearing loss like I have. They all mingle and have great time when they gather and chat. Deaf community does not have to mean that ALL of them need to be deaf. I feel for you, Deafness88 for what you're going through and if I were you, I would try to meet new people at SHHH. Make a few friends who might help introduce you to deaf community and have more friends. It can make a HUGE difference in your life and put a smile on your face and heart.
 
I didn't know animals like birds would have repeative hair cells in their ears...

aren't there any other animals who have that similar thing?
 
Hmm... that's interesting. Perhaps, we should dap a bit of rogaine on a q-tip and clean our ears with it? :crazy:

Obviously this thread is being misunderstood -- deafness88 -- you were enquiring about hearing impairment 'cures'? Right?
Currently, there's no actual cure for deafness at this stage. But the CI is next to best thing as it's a great device in helping hear better than hearing aids. (For some, that is) You could go and get assessed to see if you're a candidate for one.
I have a CI myself and it has done great guns for me.

As for hair cell re-growth -- it's currently being investigated and researched at this stage. Dr Graeme Clark of the Royal Melbourne Eye and Ear Hospital (where he pioneered the Cochlear Implant in the '70's) is currently undergoing research for the cicila regrowth (cochlea hair).

doctors are still doing some research and still trying to find a way to put the hair cells from a different person to a hearing impaired person but it would take a very very long time to see that coming because the hair cells are EXTREMELY small and would be very difficult to put it in the apporicate place and all...so it takes time for a major change to come...but right now the only high techogloy for the deafness is the coclear implant...that's it. :dunno:

Sorry, I was just making fun of your typographical errors. I don’t really have an answer for you. Rogaine and Propecia are drugs used in the treatment of hair loss (baldness). I was just trying to be funny.

I understand your frustration, though. Sometimes I think that being profoundly deaf is better than being partially hearing. At least when you can’t hear at all, nobody expects you to be able to hear and you don’t have the constant strain of trying to catch what everybody’s saying. If you don’t like your HA’s, maybe you could check out the new CI’s from Advanced Bionics. As far as I understand it, everything is internal. All you have to do is hook a mini-BTE behind your ear and you’re out the door.

Theres too many different kind causes of deafness to just have one kind of cure. the best cure right now could be cochlear implant.
