i want to express this feeling.. i Support the idea on how this happened..

i have gone through the similar experience while looking for lawyers whereas they refused to provide interpreter.

however during my time.. i'm allowed to have interpreter during driver's ed class because its include in high school courses. right now many high schools don't have those courses anymore because its costly. where u have to go to pravite drivers ed classes.

I was in drivers ed in a deaf school back in the 90's, so it wasn't a problem for me. I guess it was a problem for deaf people in hearing high schools.

I didnt have any interpeter cuz I can hear well at that time. Also I was the only deaf student in that school of about 500 kids. :D

i was senior at deaf school and took a ed class then went to courthouse and passed it.. it no plms for me..

I took driver ED and I had no problem without any help. He/she taught me how to drive, rules etc etc. So I passed just fine. ;) I told him/her that I am deaf and lip read. If I don't understand, paper and pen will do. She/he said fine.

This will be an interesting test of the 'undue burden' provision of the ADA as it applies to Title III accommodations. My gut feeling? The driver's education companies will lose and reasonable accommodations will be granted.

i second that...

however for many of you guys.. you took them at school. i took them at my public high school for free.. nowadays they don't have those program is because it cost the state too much money for all students (hearing/deaf) free program.. so they cut that program in high schools.. now everyone is required to go take classes at pravite drivers ed here in minnesota.. i'm sure other states are mostly the similar.

This article was one the front page and I applauded when I read that these companies will probably go out of business for this stunt . . . forcing and charging for interpreters. I also called the reporter on the phone and told her she did a good job in writing it and, if she wanted to, contact me due to the problems I've encountered with Snickers out in public. It is unbelieveable, 16 years after the ADA passed, that people still don't get it AND harrass those who need accomodations. I give shit back to those who give me hassle with Snickers.

Incidentally, one of the owners of one of the driving schools is the mayor of Saint Cloud, Minnesota. Of all the people who should know better, he has no excuse. I visualize bankruptcy for him.

I haven't gotten my permit just yet but did pass the driver's ed in HS... My driver's ed teacher was a pain and made things a bigger deal than it usually is. Apparently he doesn't know anything or doesn't want to take time with deaf students. Somtimes its easier for me to not tell anyone that Im deaf since they are going to make a huge deal out of it. I lip read real good so I understand perfectly fine. So I'm now studyin the book over and over to make sure I get it right...... Hopfully I won't get a trouble out of this person :fingersx:

Basically it falls into the high costs of interpreting services. With the interpreting industry being stubborn as they are refusing to budge down on interpreter costs makes it easy for entities to claim the 'undue burden' clause.

Ther costs of interpreters are a combination of the interpreter's time plus the high cost of maintaining the interpreter credentials.

Why do you need to contact Media reporters? Is there something wrong with your writing skills?

I have took driving ed at deaf school last 2 years ago and already passed road test last year in summer. I'm not sure if have problem with our public school, haven't checked their driving ed classes though, that MUCH differnet.

I did get permit driver from Deaf School, BUT I took the road test for License Driver with a hearing man, it's no problem between of him and me without any interpreters, even I can't read the lips or talking at all, he just did is using his body lanuage with me that's all. That's good job from him. Also, people need to giving their respect for Deaf people because some of them would need the interpreters. Im glad that girls(in that the link) did sue them so it will give them the lesson to learing, same with out of people in the world if it will happen to them with another deaf people.

My favorite quote, "Don't screw up with Deaf People". ;)

I took road test with hearing woman, without interpreters and she's doing great job for me. I have no problem with her, road test was about less than 30 min to be done. I got one accident last year when one hearing man that drove soo fast then crashed on me, tried went turn to left. It happened last year.

Other one that's funny: "Don't fuck up with deaf people"

Yeppers, I agreed with you.

I got in five car accidents.

First: I checked on my blind spot on my right side and moved my mom's van in another lane and somehow that hearing woman speeded up and scartched my mom's van and that woman started bitch at me and my mom for being my fault to hit her because Im dumb deaf which she did horn at me. I just quiet and waited for police showed up, he dicussioned with that woman because she is in hurry to seeing her husband from the airplane. I was like whoa then explained the police officer abt what happened and he said that he would support me in courthouse to sue that woman for caused that accident then I showed up in courthouse and I saw the police officer there, he sat next by me and been waiting for that woman FOR AN HOUR. She didnt show up then I got excused.

Second: My car lose the control on the dirt road, I dont know what caused so I hit on the tree but nothing scratch and everything is fine, it's still running and I left.

Third: I was in my friend's car, and my another friend drove another car which is behind of us. Somehow that tow truck driver stopped all of sudden and didnt use the flash for left. My friend saw that tow truck stopped quickly then she stopped too fast but somehow, my another friend saw that happened and he stopped but too late which he had the trailer behind of his car, it pushed him to hitting my friend's car. We end up hurt but didn't go to the hosptial. And, the police officer showed up and blamed on that hearing tow truck driver for not using the flash for left and stopped too quickly.

Fourth: I drove on the dirt road, I went less than 10 mph only and somehow the truck got slipped and spined around and hit the mailbox, a woman and two couples helped me to getting out of there and left the note for someone can call me or ask me to pay for their new mailbox but they didnt.

Fifth: recently in June 2005, I drove my friend to home but I missed the ramp to enter in the freeway, I moved my truck in the center to turn left, Im only few feet away from the light, I saw the red light is on then I turned left and somehow that car speeded up and hit my truck, we end up hurt and went to the hosptial together. Two girls(hearing) wanted to sue me for not hearing their horn then police officer told them that they cant sue me because Im deaf, they gulped and they and I didnt get ticket, but my friend got ticket because she had her legs over, not down.

Wow, this life for hearing people are getting more hard as deaf people are growing into more easier and more rights. The Americans With Disabilities Act were passed in 1990, Thanks to George H. W. Bush. It makes hearing people getting more hard time to accept any handicapped to get job and respect handicapped what they doing. All public transportation like here in LA, we are use reduced fare because I already proof my driver license and medicare.

The driving in LA isn't bad but LA is got more car accidents than any other cities due largest city with most freeway system. We have tiny camera (like red tags or other thing) to bust many of cars for being speed up, hit horn, fail to use signal when change the lane, not attention properly, reckless driving and many other mistakes. Deaf people are rare to get tickets and I haven't got ticket when driving in LA so often. One thing that car cannot pass on other car on LA freeway because it's concern with safety and social issue. Everything in traffic are struck with less than 70 mph.

I had been passenger with hearing people for go somewhere like party, hang out and much more so they are seems decent driving with me and some do call on cell phone, they are drive like safer when they are talk on cell phone. I think that they are driving so careful because traffic laws are so strict in California, as in LA metro.
