But because of an incredible goof, Shahzad couldn't use his escape car. He had accidentally left the keys to that vehicle in the Pathfinder that he thought was about to blow up, the source said.

He apparently went to a train station, where he boarded a Metro North train back to Connecticut.

Another law enforcement source told CNN that investigators found a train receipt used by Shahzad that is stamped about 7 p.m., a half hour after a witness notified authorities that the car in Times Square was filing with smoke.

Sources say investigators believe he ran to catch the train that pulled out around 7 or 7:15 Saturday night.

I'm amazed that he's able to catch a train to Connecticut in less than 30 min.

:dunno: but one thing that did catch my attention. his "hobby" room.... it had plastic lining for floor and window. I don't think I want to imagine what was being done in there :cold:

If you wanted to do a lot of damage with a well-rigged car bomb, the junction of West 45th Street and Broadway in midtown Manhattan, where Times Square narrows into an asphalt bottleneck, would be the place to pick. If the bomb planted in a green 1993 Nissan Pathfinder SUV on the evening of May 1 had exploded, here's what would have happened, according to retired New York police department bomb-squad detective Kevin Barry. The car would have turned into a "boiling liquid explosive." The propane tanks that the bomb comprised would have overheated and ignited into "huge blowtorches" that could have been ejected from the vehicle. The explosion, lasting only a few seconds, would have created a thermal ball wide enough to swallow up most of the intersection. A blast wave would have rocketed out in all directions at speeds of 12,000 to 14,000 ft. per sec. (3,700 to 4,300 m per sec.); hitting the surrounding buildings, the wave would have bounced off and kept going, as much as nine times faster than before. Anyone standing within 1,400 ft. (430 m) — about five city blocks — of the explosion would have been at risk of being hit by shrapnel and millions of shards of flying glass. The many who died would not die prettily. A TIME reporter familiar with the ravages of car bombs in Baghdad describes how victims appeared to be naked because a fireball melted their clothing onto the surface of their skin.

let's not distort, shall we? The car bombs in Iraq were made of munition round, mortar/artillery shell, etc. This one? a M-88 firecracker

No. I've seen it before on YouTube or haven't you noticed the number of hits? I went back and tried to tally up the number of hits on several but same videos and it is around 750,000 hits since 2006. Not bad for a commercial that was banned.
 
Looking at the Ford Ka video virals, the total tally looked to be around 350,000 since 3 years ago.

Federal authorities have arrested three New England men in connection with the attempted Times Square bombing, Fox News has learned.

FBI and Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on Thursday morning executed search warrants in "several locations in the Northeast," a statement from ICE said.

At least two raids were in Boston suburbs. Search warrants related to the case were also executed in Maine, in Camden County, N.J., and on Long Island in New York.

Authorities are looking into whether the New England men, all three from Pakistan, and others may have had any role in the Times Square plot or any prior knowledge of it.

"These raids are the logical next step in the investigation, after gathering preliminary information to ascertain where money may have come from," one source said. "We're trying to figure out where [the main suspect] got money from, and these are potential sources of that money."

But, the source said, the New England men may have "unwittingly assisted in some capacity." In fact, the source said, the main suspect in the case, 30-year-old Faisal Shahzad, may have duped the men into providing money, but authorities are not ruling out anything at this point.

The searches are "the product of evidence that has been gathered in the investigation subsequent to the attempted Times Square bombing," ICE spokeswoman Kelly Nantel said in the statement.

Specifically, one source said, the search warrants are the product of information obtained through interrogations of Shahzad, who has now been charged with five federal offenses, including attempted use of a weapon of mass destruction.

Officials said the searches "do not relate to any known immediate threat to the public or active plot against the United States."

The New England men have been arrested on "administrative charges," which means federal authorities will not advise them of Miranda rights to question them, as is required in criminal cases.

Republicans on Capitol Hill have criticized the Obama administration for "Mirandizing" suspects during several recent terrorism investigations.

One of the men arrested Thursday has been charged with overstaying his visa, and another, identified as Pir Khan, has been charged with staying in the country despite an order of removal, according to one source. Both were living in the Boston area.

The third man was arrested in Maine for alleged immigration violations, a source said.

In a 2002 case in South Carolina, a Pakistani man named Pirdad Khan was ordered to leave the United States after pleading guilty to entering the United States illegally and "concealment of facts."

It's unclear if the 2002 case is related to the latest arrests.

Federal authorities have not ruled out bringing criminal charges against the New England men in the future.

Asked whether any more arrests could be expected on Thursday, one law enforcement official declined to comment.

"We will use every resource available to make sure that anyone found responsible, whether they be in the United States or overseas, is held accountable," Attorney General Eric Holder told lawmakers on Thursday. "This is an on-going investigation and ... we are actively pursuing all those who were involved in it."

Oh, as an afterthought, I totally foresee the Democrats taking credit for Bush's ideas when they "invent" them ....
 
3 more people were arrested today for the car bombing! I did not think the first guy was working along.
