Congress said Pizza is a Veggie to Save Money On School Luches! o

If you go strictly by serving size (8 oz) these numbers are pretty similar between the 100% apple juice and the soda. There are obvious benefits from the apple juice, since it contains vitamin C. However, it does not look like a much better choice.

Yep, I get ya. The point I was trying to make is the overall drink by volume - I feel that a lot of Americans are guilty by drinking until we're no longer thirsty, rather than controlling our amounts.

There was also the sucrose/fructose aspect to it in the drinks (posted that earlier in #89 and the one before) - the apple juice is essentially half the fructose amount contained in the soda if we are talking amount of fructose intake. The glucose intake should be good and normal. If we just talk any sugar intake, yeah, it is the same. But if we talk what type of sugar intake, it's a little something else.

I cooked a full bag of carrots once. Like a 1lb bag. They were getting old and I figured I'd eat them all in a meal. Later in the bathroom, I noticed my urine was a nice interesting color and researched about beta-carotene and effects on urine.

OK, I got it. I was looking at the sugar as a whole, along with calories. One thing about Mt Dew; most people I know that like them drink a whole lot of them daily. I avoid regular soda, for the most part. I will have an occasional Diet Dr Pepper or a regular Pepsi/Coke when I eat spicy foods, but that is maybe 2 a month. I prefer flavored water.

Probably similar to when I drank a whole bunch of grape sodas during one of my Super Mario days. I pooped bright green. :eek2:

That would have scared me SWK!

Anybody here eat beets? That does interesting things too ... :eek3: But not as interesting as bright green poop, thank goodness!

The best part was my brother had the same thing happen to him that weekend. We both kept it secret for the first day, then it came out the second day, kind of a "What is going on with me?" moment. Then came the heavy laughter, followed by the grape sodas being pushed to the back of the fridge.

I love beets. And you are absolutely correct.:giggle:

I eat beets! My stepmom makes the most delicious pickled beets with apple cider vinegar - I swear it's like eating candy. Love love love beets.

did your skin turn orange?

Beats? I find it hard to imagine beats being all that good.. But I will take everyone's word for it.

Most people who juice tend to be health-conscious so they have much better diets that are higher in fiber. So, whatever fiber they didn't get from a freshly squeezed cup of fruits/veggies, they are getting from elsewhere like grains, vegetables, fruits, legumes, beans, etc etc. The huge advantage of juicing is that it allows you to consume far more than the daily recommended minimum servings of fruits and veggies in just one glass. This summer, I drank on average two cups of freshly squeezed juice of fruits and veggies a day - the equivalent of a large sized mixing bowl overflowing with fruits and veggies. If you have a kid who doesn't enjoy eating big plates of fresh fruits and veggies, the fresh squeezed fruit/veggie cocktail is a fantastic substitute.

I'm a big juicing fan. Sugar spikes are not bad when you need one - say mid-afternoon between lunch and supper or after a workout at the gym.

However, being that it's as liquid as water and has only 100 calories, it's not expected to make you feel full at all. If you have a child who obviously reacts to sugar spikes - first ask yourself what did they just drink? Coca cola with caffeine and high fructose syrup? Processed juice with/out food dyes? Once you eliminate those possibilities and see that the child is still reacting to a sugar spike, then you could serve the fresh squeezed juice along with solid foods high in fiber and/or fats and/or proteins, they would slow down the absorption of sugar into the bloodstream.

We are on the same page, Caroline. We already know that processed juices and processed foods are bad and influence kids' wild behaviors, so it is easy to get rid of them. I have no concern with people preparing vegetable juices as long as it works in their gut. I already stated that vegetable juices have much less effect on blood sugar. My point is I've witnessed too many parents give their kids casually large amounts of fresh fruit juices without meal sides, and their behaviors had gotten out of control.

You are lucky you don't have any problem consuming from prepared juices. I've prepared my fruit juice (one cup) for a snack only many times. It seems not much, but it is amazing that one cup of fruit juice caused horrible bloating and burning constantly in my gut. I've also attempted the combination of fruit/vegetable juice (one cup) to alleviate the conundrum, but it didn't work, either. I've also tried it along with meals sides, but the bloating and inflammation continued. That's what compelled me to research on the digestion system reports and books for a while, I had to ask my relatives/family/friends who traditionally prepare their meals, and beverages. I found out that I do not have enough good bacteria in my gut. Thanks to those aggressive antibiotic therapies. I have to consume saurkraut, kimchi, or kefir (probiotics) daily for my gut. I eat fresh fruits instead, and I've not had any bloating, and burning ever since. Plus, it does also make me feel full.

That's correct. I'm a diabetic so I have to be on the watch out for added sugar as I have to limit my carb intake at meal time. I try to keep my carb intake around 45 g or less to take into account for natural sugars.

Unfortunately, the hand-tossed has sugar which is required if the dough come with yeast. It's more like, you want the thin pizza which have no sugar at the most of time.

I like pickled beets, and Harvard beets...kind of a warm pickled beet.

Yep, best to make fruit juices from real fruits with juicer or buy the 100% pure fruit juice (specific type of fruit) and also try to drink less fruit juice and eat more fresh fruit and vegetables.
