Confirmation for teenagers

Can you share your experience here with us?

What and how you had through with your teenagers' confirmation?

Danny will have his confirmation on 22nd April. He went to confirmation class every Wednesday since last year.

Accord German tradition:

Accord Danny's confirmation - is for family who attend at church, resturant
& afternoon coffee....

Confirmation means is Danny's childhood is in the past. Its through this celebration as a value young adulthood/member in the church.

What about you?
 
Nobody posts here... :hmm: It look like that there're no confirmation for teenagers in America, Canada or other countries or what? :hmm:
 
I do know about celebrating becoming adulthood in some countries. Like Indians, Arabians, etc. I don't know about Americans unless they're from other countries and became American citizens. I'll be celebrating my daughter's sweet 16th birthday in few months.
 
I belong to a Baptist church, and Baptists don't have confirmation ceremonies.

To join a Baptist church, first a person publicly tells the membership that he or she has accepted Jesus as Savior.

Then, the person is baptized by total immersion.

Then, the person can join the church. The person has to request to join the church in front of the membership. Then, the Pastor asks the person are you saved, and have you been baptized by total immersion (in that order). Then, if the person is an adult, the Pastor also asks if that person has read, understood, and agreed with the church constitution and doctrinal statement. If the person says "yes" to all the questions, then the Pastor asks the membership to vote by raising their hands. That's how a person becomes a member of the church.

New Christians are discipled by other church members, especially in their Sunday School classes.

Children and adults learn about the doctrines in Sunday School and church. There is no special age for this. Teaching is for everyone. So we don't have confirmation classes.

Exactly... Here in Germany teenagers at 14 years old...

Interesting.

My son attend confirmation class every Wednesday and Sunday at church twice a month. They have to make test until they pass their exam to celebrate to become adulthood and also a member of church.
 
I had my confirmantion when I was 14, and my son too when he was 16. He went to confirmation class for two years. Been awhile since then. My kids are in 20's now. We choose someone to be our godparent and after ceremony, we went out to restaurant to celebrate. Others would have party at their home with alot of people to attend.

Yes it´s same here in Germany.

Danny was already christening when he was 4 months old that´s why he is accept. He went confirmation class since last year.

We rather to go resturant with family and relative to celebrate Danny´s confirmation. My famliy from England will come over...
 
My kids doesn't go church for confirmation. I don't go to Catholic church.
 
Lutheran Protestant... that's definitely German religious. My grandfather used to go to that church when he was little with his German families. His wife, my grandmother was brought up pure Catholic (French).
 
I don't think it's really necessary to have a confirmation. There are some people who use it as proof that they are really mean. I think it's something you have to prove yourself, not through religion.

Yes I know what you mean.

I really can´t do anything but follow village where we live accord German Tradition. If I refuse to have my son to attend confirmation then he will feel being left out in village which is no good... It will get people from village where we live, wondering why I keep Danny from confirmation... I rather to let Danny have his decision together with his friends either they want to have confirmation together or not. The teenagers, my son grew up together since they were babies/toddlers in my village and other 2 villages. Danny agrees for want to attend Confirmation... Its good to see them together attend confirmation class...

I guess it would be different story if I live in a large city like Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt etc.

Exactly.

I myself am Roman Catholic but I decide to have my both sons baptist as Lutheran Protestant to follow their Dad and village where we live.

That is so wonderful. :) What will u give him when he is confirmed, my son's teacher gave him a bible and we got him a necklace with st. chirstopher ( he chose st christopher when he was confirmed).
 
My family in Finland is Lutheran and everybody in my family has their confirmation, usually around age of 16 to celebrate the transition from being a child to an adult.

I think my brother and I are the only ones in the family that don't have any confirmation since we are in America.
I did get a confirmation ring from my grandmother to celebrate my 16th birthday -- the transition to a woman-- even though I didn't attend church's confirmation.

Finnish people are notoriusly known for not being religious or attend churches that much; even though Lutheran are the majority religion (90% of Finland is lutheran).
 
I liked my confirmation, I was 12 when confirmed.

I've been to several confirmations for my cousins.
I find it is mostly a sort of religious "graduation ceremony". The kids have gone through basic religion schooling and are willing to accept what they are taught as their faith (up until that point it is the faith of their parents - even if they are baptised).

Many kids do it because their parents tell them they must or the kid doesn't understand (really) what they are accepting. But some do understand (depends a lot on how old the kid is at confirmation time).
 
Danny passed his confirmation test last Sunday.....

I prepared the Invitation cards with my artwork and send away yesterday...

I will post the Invitation card here this evening.
