I don't even bother reading half of the new topics these days because they always seem to follow this pattern:

1) Original post of value
2) 4 or 5 good comments
3) one troll makes stupid comments
4) other trolls smell stupidity and start trolling too.
5) topic gets locked or dies of its own stupidity.

I shall continue with an open letter:
-----------------------------
Dear Troll:

Since the mods pleas for decorum have not been followed, perhaps I might appeal to your logical thought processes instead.

Your words will always be a reflection of your thoughts, your experiences and your mentality the moment you press that "Submit" button. Guess what? Thanks to google and other websites, those words will ALWAYS be available for everyone to see. When my kids get older and they google "neilmcd", I don't want them to be scandalized by what they find.

Let's follow a rule of thumb: If you don't want to see the statement or the posting you're about to make pasted on every copy of tomorrow's New York Times, then don't make it.

If you HAVE to say something, STOP AND THINK about it before you type it.

After you've typed it, STOP and read it over again. Does it make sense? Does it properly convey the argument for-or-against the topic at hand? Are you substituting a lack-of-knowledge with profanity?

Look, there's nothing wrong with being a bible-thumping, god-fearin' evangelist on alldeaf.com. If you give me a good discussion, I'll read that and carefully consider your points. If you're a conspiracy theorist who thinks the noxious fart the guy next to you on the subway let loose is part of a government plot to poison you, then I might label you a whacko but I'll leave the thread alone.

On the flip side, if your response to an evangelical christian trying to make the argument that homosexuality is wrong consists of, "oh, bother.. not one of you crazy christians again!"; you might want to consider holding off on submitting the response. Do your research. Find a "school of thought" that advances your own theory and find out what their "facts" are. Present a valid, reasoned and logical argument and the discussion would be so much better off!

In the spirit of confession, I shall offer that I have made the mistake of flaming people on forums in the past (crazymanwoot and ravensteve).

If you've flamed trolls in the past, please step up and 'confess' your sins. If you are or you ever have been a troll, please step up and confess your sins.

All will be forgiven if we make the effort to STOP the madness!

Neil: :gpost:

Lately I've been reading those flame wars going on, and its been driving me :dizzy: Especially when a thread goes waaaay off-topic that it becomes worthless.

In my nearly 2 years of the forums, I have never seen such worse things going on up to now. Especially when it comes to religion. I just try to stay out of religion threads since it's a hot potato subject and many ppl have many opinions on that very touchy subject.

I have never seen worst troll anywhere but the past 2 months, this forum just had became a troll heaven.

Let us hope that sanity reigns once in this forum.

Now I will confess my sins! .... * forgive me for cussing out at someone here *... :aw:

Brilliantly said, Neil

Angel honey, it is okay to cuss out sometimes. It is more healthy to let all out of you than hold it in :) Didnt that feel good? ;)

I won't lie to you but yessss it did feel good but I couldn't stop my hands from shaking so much! ...

I'll admit that I can be a troll at times, when Christen believers kept going on and on about how I've sinned. If they kept it quiet none of this would have gone to a flame war. :)

just my two cents.
