Comic Rodney Dangerfield Dies in L.A. at Age 82

Oct. 5, 2004 — LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Rodney Dangerfield, the goggle-eyed comic famed for his self-deprecating one-liners and signature phrase "I can't get no respect," died on Tuesday at age 82, his publicist said.

Dangerfield, who became a pop culture sensation with a string of broad film comedies starting with "Caddyshack" in 1980, died at 1:20 p.m. PDT (4:20 p.m. EDT) at the UCLA Medical Center, where he had undergone heart valve replacement surgery in August, spokesman Kevin Sasaki said in a statement.

What a loss—another one of the greats has died. Rodney was the man. He had a cameo performance on the season premiere of Still Standing just a couple of weeks ago; it must have been his final role. I’ll always remember his performance in Back to School—to this day it still remains my favorite comedy movie of all time.

Yeah, He is funny guy -- I always remmy his fame face in somewhere on tv... RIP Rodney

Damn! He was "da man!" I can't believe he's gone already! I really enjoyed his movies! :(

Aw... I didn't know that Mr. Dangerfield had died. I was aware he had some health problems in recent years.

I've enjoyed most of his movies. He has never failed to make me laugh!

He'll be greatly missed by millions!

How horrible. But hey, 82 years old...that's a nice, long life. May he rest in peace.

Ironic - Jonathan Brandis, his co-star in "Ladybugs" is also dead. Suicide, I believe it was. I think I will watch that movie soon. Such a shame about Brandis, too. That guy would have succeeded, like Dangerfield did.

Did he die due to surgery complications?

oh man! yea.. he was very funny and acted very good on the tv.. i am sure he is with god and angel in heaven!

awwww.. I still remember some of his lines "When I was born, I was so ugly that the doctor slapped my mother." That was one of my favorite. and another one..."When I was 3 years old, my parents got a dog. I was jealous of the dog, so they got rid of me."

he always seem to make me laugh I wouldn't never forget that man. :ily:

It so sad he passed on, but his humors would always be with us.

Aw...that's sad but sure enjoyed his movies :)

Yeah, I never knew he was 82! He seemed younger!

I loved his movies even though how nuckin' futs he was, but he always made me laugh. He's gonna be missed so much. RIP R.D.

RIP Rodeny Dangerfield - he always managed to put himself down in a funny way. He was hysterical in 'Caddyshack', 'Back to School', and 'Ladybugs'.

yeah, infection set in and complications as well. I just read on an article that he came out of his coma to say good bye to his wife before he died. :(

Yes, you're right about Jonathan Brandis -- he was in 'Ladybugs' with Dangerfield -- too bad he suicided last year (will be 1 year next month). He had so much potiential in him and his future had he not committed suicide.
Did you notice that he looks like a younger version of Mark Hamill (who played 'Luke Skywalker' in the Star Wars films)?

Anyway -- just so sad that Dangerfield passed away after having heart surgery.

Dang, this guy was a hoot.
Eyes popping, he was so nervous on stage...
But he was one the most HUMAN comedians to ever laugh with us.
"Sir, I am lost, I cannot find my parents."
"Well, kid, they could be hiding anywhere."
*bawl*
RIP Dangerfield
You got respect.
