Thanks for the specific information, tousi! :)

Not a problem, mate; maybe you can buy me a roo steak and a beer, lol.

I know every HDTV via Component and HDMI doesn't support closed-captioning... :dunno: but I don't see Sony HDTV support closed-captioning via component (in digital), and HDMI. Please let us know if you see or believe that.

No, there's some HDTV that support CC via component and possibly HDMI, such as Sony.

It won't work on Sanyo, Westinghouse, Samsung and Philips, 3 of them has been tested before.

You have to ask defmatrixense because he did watch DVD movies and CC is shown on screen via component cable, he have Sony HDTV.

It does because I am seeing it. Not only that I have a Sony HDTV but also digital cable box does support CC on Dell ultrashrap widescreen HDTV (dell 2407 model) via component

I have a Vizio HDTV and I hooked up my HD cable box (comcast) through DVI to HDMI - the closed captions work. I also hooked up my upconverting DVD player (Phillips) using HDMI cables - the cc didn't work but I switched cables from HDMI to Compenent and the cc showed up.

Interesting, at the least, if the TV doesn't have CC chip installed, digital set top boxes are the back up cause they have these chips.

Ok. The TV in question is a Magnavox, model #27MS3404/17.

That's some ugly name

EDIT: I just had a look at the image of that remote - it doesn't seem to have any CC so I might suggest a universal remote?

I'm not sure what your point is? I didn't come up with the name...

We've tried everything. Nothing brings up any cc options. Not all remotes have the ability to pick up cc, sometimes it has to be done by pressing the menu buttons directly on the TV and we still can't find any cc options. The TV's only a year old, and not hi-def.

Did you buy the TV new or used from some stranger?

It is my friend's, not mine. But I am over at his house often so we use a different TV instead. But he said he bought it brand new at a store. It is now a year old, but we just met recently so he never thought to look for the cc until now. He's hearing.

Ahhh, I see all right. I don't know what else to help you, but I wish I could help by the way. It's odd that you couldn't find closed captioning menu on that TV. :dunno:

And you're in the United States?

Oh great, if possibly for Sony Bravio. Today, I went to Best Buy and I checked on Sony Bravio HDTV 720p, there are best closed-captioning style, also this best picture HDTV from Sony!
Did you check it out to see the HDTV from Best Buy channel has been captioned?! :)
Thanks to Best Buy :applause: for providing closed-captioning by CaptionMax for Best Buy promotional/demo including commercial via Best Buy Store channel has been most captioned, I don't think this channel has been all captioned? Because I am not sure, anyways.
I recommend go to Best Buy if you have more money than expensive, if you can't afford this, go to Wal-mart I recommend it for affordable living, but
you can not only buying for HDTV but you can buy SDTV with digital tuner, but there will be no HDMI Tuner for all, and some television don't need compontent, because SDTV has been maxed out resolutions up to 480i. Just
not another more than 480i.

Really? If true, I will buy Vizio HDTV for living room, but for not now.
Maybe few next years to get this one; or maybe another brand than
Vizio. I will wait and see.

Anyways, great! I asked you, your HDTV with Component cable on DVD with CC work on upconverting format?

I asking you, did you turn it on CC on analog? you can see them channels, get a CC1 for all English captions. If you go to CC on digital
go to CS1. Please try it out. I hope I am doing my best with digital age for closed-captioning on newer television also for HDTV. If that doesn't work for you, you can asking and tell to others about how these newer TV
would be work with CC. Good luck. :fingersx:

It might be a monitor and not a TV, the line between a monitor and a TV isnt as black and white as it used to be. The key difference is the presence of a tuner. a TV has a tuner, a monitor does not. If you have a tuner you should have a CC decoder. That's why I was curious about the exact model number, we'd be able to determine if it was a "TV" or a "monitor". Also if the CC option is hidden some where there may be a forum online that can help, putting the model number into Google would be the first step. :)

That's exactly! :thumb: I know these monitors doesn't have a tuner that mean it doesn't have CC decoder.
