Look the fine print how the researchers came up with the 5k figure...

and the researchers concentrated on the downtown areas of each major city. If u lived out in the suburbs then ur insurance rate would be lower ..... :dunno: Also sedan = maybe a Taurus, Impala, Camry or Accord that would make the lowest possible.

Its just the averages that they can come up......

wow that must be some kind of mistake. i always thought ny and cali have most expensive car insurances. even in my county where i live has highest rank in death from accidents, mostly from young people under 25 to teens. i thought detriot was a lot cheaper lol well interesting research they have

I decided to dive into Runzheimer's site. They were the guys that came up with the $5k Detroit average.

At $4,945 per year for insurance coverage for a mid-size sedan driven within a 50-mile radius of the city, Detroit-areas drivers pay nearly $4,000 more a year than similar drivers in Nashville who pay only $978 for the same coverage. These rates are based on both male and female drivers over a minimum age with clean driving records and include comprehensive, collision, bodily injury, property damage, and uninsured motorist coverage.

“There’s really no mystery here,” according to David Freidlen, product development director and vehicle cost expert. Insurance companies set rates based on claims records. Fewer accidents, vehicle thefts, and collision damage repair bills in Nashville versus Detroit translate into much lower annual insurance premiums.”

I am in 50 miles radius and my car is sedan so I'm paying almost 1,500 for every 6 months so it is not almost 5k.

In SLC, I pay 1.080$ a year for car insurance.

In New Jersey, I used to pay much more though. :thumbd:

huh... sounds odd to me.. since i pay $575 every 6 months for my car.. and its full coverage heh? however its $1150 per year.

insurance company damn greedy! richies...

Maybe it's because I am an older man (28 years old), no tickets since 1997, very few claims filed (I had accidents but none my fault), etc... And I don't pay it for one year, I pay it monthly 90 dollars. so 90$ x 12 = 1080$ a year.

In New Jersey, I used to pay 174$ a month though. Almost double!

Cleveland, Ohio-$465 per 6 months (approx..I don't recall)
Rochester, NY- $200 per 6 months (what a cheap insurance!!)
Las Vegas, NV- about $420 per 6 months
San Francisco-$1060 per 6 months...forget it..I cancelled Geico, switched to Mercury..it saved me tons of money...now, $484 per 6 months

What is the next?
