CI Surgery approved today

Hi everyone, well new development now. I have a severe allergic reaction to what we are guessing is the tape, red, swollen with welts and so itchy. Doctor wants to keep bandaged so we will use like an ace bandage around my head keeping the bandages in place. I am quite shocked how much hair they shaved. My daughter says to dye it hot pink and become a punk rock momma. I really appreciate all your well wishes, helps knowing others care!! Thanks again!!!

are you using any type of antibiotic cream? Anything with neomicin makes me break out like you describe. Not just neosporin..but any of the triple antibiotics have that ingredient. If the answer is yes, have them give you polysporin or another ointment/cream that does not have neomicin.
So glad you came through the surgery well. My hubby bought me a walking cane (the type with four legs) to use when I had my surgery just in case I had vertigo. I was lucky, and never used it. Maybe one would help steady you till things calm down.

Hi everyone. I survived and all I can say so far is OMG. Lots of pain where the incision is and severe vertigo. The process moved very quick because the first person was a no show. They kicked me out really fast, home by 1pm. I am good as long as I stay on my right side laying down. Im suppose to take all the bandages off tomorrow, sounds too soon to me. Marley has not left my side and is great comfort. Thanks for your concern and well wishes.

Hoping you healing and there is less discomfort by now.

Hoping the Benedryl helps, too. I am allergic to Latex in bandaids or in surgical gloves. Wonder if your tape is latex? I would hope the doctors would think of that, though. Sending healing energies and prayers.

Hi everyone. Well it has gone from bad to worse. The allergic reaction goes from my cheek, to the back of my head. There are tons of pustules, so my hair is sticking together and OMG so itchy. Dr. on call says peroxide and Benadryl. Im going to try Calamine lotion today. Thanks for your concern. Hopefully next update will be positive.

I am SEVERELY allergic to Latex (i carry Epi pen) when i got the call that i would be implanted within 24 hours, i "reminded them" that i am severely allergic to latex they said its ok it's on my files but unfortunately when i got to the hospital the surgeon who saw me before going in, i told him that I am allergic to latex... he saw the file and his face fell, I guess no one told him, they had to change alot of stuff in the op room (bed is latex, gloves, tapes etc) But luckily it was quick and everyone knows! I went in as scheduled! phew.

Hope you get bottom of this allergy.

Speedy recovery.

Called my doctor, my luck he is not in the office today. Washed my hair 3 times to get any remainder adhesive off. Still really, really bad. My whole left side of my neck up to the top of my head is filled with pustuels, so gross. I emailed a picture to my doctors office hopping someone will realize how bad it is. Also my surgery ear has the worst earache. As of now, all I can say is "what the heck did I do" I have had numerous surgeries and the only time I had a reaction was when I had epidurals during chid birth. :-:)-:)-(

Oh, no! She's going to give birth to an alien through her ear!

:giggle: Just trying to lighten things up. Hope you get this resolved soon. Have you considered going to the ER?

Your surgeon is not an allergy specialist. You need to call an allergy/immunology office and explain your situation, they might let you in early, and they will do a test on your skin. Obviously you are allergic to something...could be the iodine they used to clean your skin, could be the bandages, latex, etc, but I suspect you might be allergic to the internal dissolvable stitches and/or superglue they used to close you up.

Day 7 post-op things are not much better. I wish I knew how to post a picture so you can see. Maybe not a good idea tho, really gross. The rash is continuing to spread and now is in my mouth. I also have a black eye and bruising on my cheek from surgery. I think I can check off all the cons on my list, plus a lot more. 2nd CI surgery WILL NEVER HAPPEN!!! I hope my next post will be some good news. The well needed cortisone shot I need is not going to happen. Apparently my last hospital stay there was some reaction to the steroids. Thanks for all your support!!!!

This is what I think too. My surgeon thought that idea was crazy. I am having a patch allergy test in 2 weeks. I strongly believe it is the stitches/glue. Everything else has been washed away. If there is no change over night, I am seeing my other doctor tomorrow. She is well aware of my illness last year and should be able to offer some help. Thanks!!!!

Thinking of you, Angel.....

I am at 12 days post op. the allergic reaction is still going on. Went from my ear, neck, mouth, shoulder, back, chest and now on both arms. I finally had enough and my surgeon would not do anything. I just saw my primary care doctor and got 2 shots of steriods. Without shots it would take 2-3 more weeks. With shots 2-3 daya. I took the shots and pray they work without any complications. I believe activation is in 3 weeks, depending on how much I heal. Boy what a ride this last year has been!!!!

I'm sorry you're dealing with an allergic reaction, hopefully it can be sorted out soon and you start feeling better. Hopefully the steroid shots help~

Hi everyone!!! Well day 14 post op ....I was really upset last night because all the steroid shots did not seem to help at all. Just now, within the last hour things seem to be getting a "little"better. I have a loud HUMMM in my surgery ear and the song "If your happy and you know it clap your hands" has been playing over and over for days now. Haha Maybe, finally things have turned for the better and I can get excited about the activation date. Thanks for your support!!!

Sounding like a "trooper"! Angel...It's always darkest before dawn....Thinking of ya, girl!...Hang in there.
rockin'

Hi Angel: Seems to be a slow process of recovering with all the extra problems you seemed to have encountered.
Hopefully you have "turned the corner" and a speedy recovery-forthwith.

Happy to say that my CI surgery went through today. Scheduled for May 30th and insurance also approved! Glad the insurance was ok, since I just got the insurance a month ago or so primarily for the CI. Any thing necessary before the surgery? (No eating for 12 hours or something?)

I found out a couple days before my surgery that you have to have a Meningitis Vaccine. Almost messed up my surgery date which was just 3 weeks ago. Good luck!!! Lots of people here with great information.
