CI and Tinnitus

Yeah! I am looking forward to get staples off tomorrow. I have an appointment for post-operative. I am sick of staples pierced on my skin. It feel like a zipper. LoL I will able to take a shower with my left ear again. My left ear had cover the cotton ball and Press "N" Seal wrap during in the shower. My skin is healed. :)

LOL! I know how you feel. I had nylon sutures for my second surgery (I don't know why) and was glad to have them removed.

For my first surgery I had dissolvable stitches which I liked because they fell out on their own. The only thing that bothered me a little was how itchy they were. :giggle:

:laugh2: I did itch my skin too. I can feel my implant sit. My husband is so exciting. He felt it and it's weird bump. That's how is cochlear implant's design. I don't have nylon sutures and stitches like yours. It's different from mine. I am wonder why I had staples. I guess I will ask my doctor tomorrow. Yayaya

I think it depends on your surgeon although I had the same surgeon for both of my surgeries, so I don't know why he decided to use dissolvable stitches the first time and nylon sutures the second time. Perhaps there was an issue with my incision and because of that, nylon sutures needed to be used instead. It's also possible that I had too much hair which would have prevented the dissovable stitches from dissolving. A year did pass between my first and second surgery, so that's possible as well.

I can't remember what thread I discussed receiving a new cable coil in, so I thought I'd post here. I was able to remove the old coil cable from my processor, but now I need someone to explain how to screw the magnet in. Which direction do I turn it and how far should it be rotated? How do I know if it's too tight? (Anyone can comment)

The magnet should be turned clockwise. I would turn the magnet until you can no longer turn it. You will know if the magnet is too tight if your head starts to hurt around where the magnet is. If the magnet is too tight just turn it counter clockwise. I know you will be doing this by feel so I tried this with my eyes closed to see if I could do it. I found using the thumb and forefinger worked good.

:ty: Someone also told me I could use a nickel, so I will try that as well since my hands are weak and I cannot turn or grasp objects easily. I plan to do this tomorrow and will let you know if I have any success. :)
 
Hey, Sorry, I was at work earlier... Yes as Vivie says... Feel what your old coil/magnet like before removing so u have the idea of how far the magnet would be ok for you.

I am not sure which coil you use, but my Freedom coil doesn't really need a nickel or anything to screw in/out the magnet. What I do is I hold the center magnet with my forefinger and thumb then use my other hand to rotate the outer shell itself, assuming it's detached from the processor (Think of the center magnet as a bolt and the outer shell as the nut). You can tell if its screwing in or out by feeling for the flat part of the coil and feeling if the magnet is screwing towards that side.

I'm not sure if this would be easier or not due to your hands, but it's an option.

Edit: I skimmed over some posts in this thread, but went back and realized that someone already mentioned thumb/forefinger. My bad! :) *Note to self: Do not skim over posts!*

I'm going to try using a nickel because my hands are weak and I don't think I have the strength to use my fingers to turn the magnet.

I appreciate your suggestion though. :)
