Christopher Michael Langan (born c. 1957) is an American autodidact who says that he taught himself mathematics, physics, cosmology and the cognitive sciences. Various media sources report Langan as having an estimated IQ of 195. According to 20/20, Langan scored "off the charts" when tested by Dr. Robert Novelly. Novelly, a board certified neuropsychologist, commented that Langan was "the highest individual that I have ever measured in 25 years" of testing. Langan appeared in filmmaker Errol Morris' The Smartest Man in the World episode of the television documentary series "First Person." Langan also appeared in one episode of Walker, Texas Ranger.

With only a small amount of college, Langan has held a variety of labor-intensive jobs including construction worker, cowboy, firefighter, farmhand, and perhaps most famously, bar bouncer. Langan, who grew up in Montana, currently owns and operates a horse ranch in northern Missouri. Langan has written question and answer columns for New York Newsday, The Improper Hamptonian and Men's Fitness. In 2001 Langan was featured in Popular Science magazine, where he discussed a concept he developed and promotes which he calls the "Cognitive-Theoretic Model of the Universe" (CTMU).

I think they said Einstein's IQ was estimated to be around 160, but this guy's IQ is estimated to be 195. :eek3:

Whoa - very high IQ,

why not he enter TV's show how to win money like "Sale of the Century" or "Who want to be a millionaire" etc to make rich quicker!!

195 I wish I had that kind of IQ..... but then I dont want to know how much I have.

Also IQ is measured many different ways so its hard to know how smart the person being measured is. Look at the case of Marilyn Mach vos Savant and how her IQ was measured:

and oooo I gotta mention I'm a huge Einstein fan. Right now I'm reading his biography and someone just gave me a 2007 Einstein calendar to hang on my wall.

Damn. He's super-smart and certainly smarter than me whereas i have only 100 IQ :rifle:

Very high score indeed :eek3: but I am not much interested in IQs.. my own world is more important to me than numbers .

Very HIGH IQ! He seems humble for someone who is that intelligent tho.

It's just a number. It's like saying one of my brothers has a higher IQ than me -- but he can't finish college, nor can he do technical math well, but he sure can paint a better picture than I can. So what?

Again, the test of IQ is just that -- a test of how well you do on tests.

Agreed. Psychometrics comes to be a pretty loose science.

However, I think there is some empirical validity to intellectual psychometrics. See, for example, someone who scores 195 is probably going to be pretty darn smart, no matter what his environmental context is.

But on the other hand, there's that Stanley Garn quotation that goes, "If the Aborigine drafted an I.Q. test, all of Western civilization would presumably flunk it."

I don't believe IQ stuff anyways. We can be smart in one way or other. I could care less on IQ measurements, it's not that accurate.

Having a high IQ is nice. But like a wise man once said.."That and 50 cents will get you a cup of coffee".

Does this man have children? Have scientists asked if we can clone him?

Below would be me and him in the same room; I'm on the left and he's on the right.

 :stupid:

Hee hee
