Chavez congratulates Obama

I am not surprised Chávez congratulated him. Chávez treats women like second-class citizens. My friend is from Venezuela, and she just fled again. Twice. She had to go to Thailand to teach English to save up money. She is still on the blacklist, because she is a member of the political party that is trying to take down Chávez, and it makes difficult for her to seek any job in Caracas. Any employer can look up the blacklist to see if a future employee is against Chávez or not. She also said that everything including food, toilet paper prices in Caracas just had gone up three times. Some of them cant afford them now. Unfortunately, she was going to come to USA for a good life, but she was surprised to find out that immigration fees just increased this year.

Yup, inflation in Venezuela is very higher.

Oh yes Reba, because it's wrong for leaders from other nations to applaud our choice of a politician.

Let's see, would you prefer that we continue the Bush policy of aggression towards what he calls rogue nations? Look at how that turned out so far.

Whether you like Chavez or not, I welcome the idea of our country strengthening diplomatic ties with Venezuela, Iran and any other so-called "rogue" nation. We still have to think about averting WWIII and we need a leader that can talk tough without pissing off other nations.

He used media/news for his gain.

No but Bush and the Republican Party have their very own news channel: Fox News.

That's probably where you heard this information about Chavez.

And otherwise, as long as Chavez doesn't attack us, who cares?

Chavez has something that we want.......

Chavez needs a bullet in his head. End of Story.

Why? Because he gave oil to Americans when heating oil costs went through the roof?

I think his beef is exclusively with Bush and not the American people as a whole.

I think we're setting a dangerous precedent though when we suggest that leaders of other nations deserve a "bullet in the head".

They are only somewhat less biased towards the liberals. The conservatives in mainstream media are greatly outnumbered.

Apparently you didn't read the link that I posted. It was not from FNC.

We should wait until he attacks us before we "care?" You mean like another 9/11?

Who says that he's even going to attack us?

I'm sorry but I don't believe in pre-emptive strikes and I feel sorry for anyone who does. I believe in strong diplomacy.

obviously - we cannot know the national security matters most of times as it is a classified matter. I do believe in preemptive strikes but it's usually done AFTER lengthy diplomatic discussions. Sometimes there is an urgent matter that someone will strike USA - and if it's beyond reasonable doubt that enemy will do it... I support preemptive strike.

The use of preemptive strike is a very sensitive matter and it's always a last resort. I'm sure USA has frequently consulted with its closest allies beforehand (probably Brits). If the government has substantial evidence that Iran will strike us - then I will support the preemptive strike. The Administration will deal with repercussion/news/etc. later. Don't forget - USA has history of giving AMPLE AMPLE AMPLE amount of warnings. The enemy has AMPLE AMPLE AMPLE amount of time to cooperate.

However - I do not support Bush Administration's use of preemptive strikes in most cases. They defied against United Nations and NATO's objections. Clinton Administration's use of preemptive strikes were justified although the end result was a bit messy and poorly handled. I think Obama Administration would exercise with extreme caution in using preemptive strike but I hope he is not afraid to use it. Obama needs to be able to step up if the situation requires it. I don't have much faith in Obama's ability to make a hard military decision but I'll give him a small benefit of doubt.

Parniod thread...
How is it paranoid to post the news? It's something that really happened. I thought you followed world news.

It´s nice of Hugo Chavez to congrat Obama.
Nice? Didn't you read Chavez's comments about socialism taking over the Americas?

It doesn´t mean that America become communist or whatever because President Hugo Chaveo CONGRAT Obama... JUST congratulation, no more than that...

Chavez congratulated Obama because he sees Obama as someone who will agree with him and his ideas. Do you think Chavez would have congratulated McCain the same way?

Oh yes Reba, because it's wrong for leaders from other nations to applaud our choice of a politician.
It depends on which leaders, and how they say it. If the congratulations come from leaders who oppose America and/or our allies then that's not good.

...Whether you like Chavez or not, I welcome the idea of our country strengthening diplomatic ties with Venezuela, Iran and any other so-called "rogue" nation. We still have to think about averting WWIII and we need a leader that can talk tough without pissing off other nations.
When has appeasement to "rogue" nations solved anything? Did it stop Germany during WWII, or the Soviet Union during the Cold War? Rogue nations don't respect talk (especially talk that isn't backed up with muscle)--they see that as weakness.

That doesn't mean the USA has to attack other nations as a first option. It does mean that the option is available, if needed. It also means we need to be vigilant and watch our backs.

I didn't say that Chavez is planning an attack. But we need to be aware of whose side he's on, and not be fooled by his sweet talk for Obama.

We don't want to have to explain another instance of being caught unawares.

I do.

Really?

Chavez hates Bush.

Liberals said that McCain would be another Bush.

Therefor, Chavez would hate McCain as President.

So, why would Chavez congratulate McCain if he would be perceived to be another Bush?

Do you live in fear of terrorists/terrorism every single day?
