Can Obama save Detriot?

Detroit is in the process of REINVESTING itself. All they need is the $25 billion green car loan and more advertising of their home-grown green cars like these:

Ford Escape Hybrid
Ford Fusion Hybrid
Chrysler Aspen Hybrid
Dodge Durango Hybrid
Chevy Silverado Hybrid truck
Chevy Tahoe Hybrid
Cadillac Escalade Hybrid
Chevy Malibu Hybrid
Saturn AURA Hybrid
Mercury Mariner Hybrid
Mercury Milan Hybrid
GMC Sierra Hybrid truck
GMC Yukon Hybrid
Chevy Volt
Saturn VUE Hybrid

Detroit has been the LEADER in the car industry for many years with their innovations. Losing Detroit is like the heartbeat of America dying. I have been driving Detroit 3 cars most of the time with only 2 exceptions (Toyota and Audi) and I can say that the Detroit cars will take ABUSE better than the Germans and Japanese can do. My 2001 FORD is now at 155,000 miles and it holds up well to what would kill a Japanese car at 300,000 miles.

Where would America's automotive identity be without the Detroit 3? and sell out to the Chinese? Hell no over my dead body!

. . . Detroit has been the LEADER in the car industry for many years with their innovations.

Quote your source. What innovations? You mean the copies from the Japanese and claiming them as their own?

They have been dying for years AND selling themselves out in the process. Take out your oil pan pin and tell me what it says on it -- Japan. Right? Wow, an "American Made" car!

At less than half of what the Japanese car has on for mileage, I would hope the Ford is holding up. If it's not, it's not Japan's fault, only the user's. :) Additionally, with only 300K on it, the car is just getting broken in, while the Ford is looking for the nearest junk yard to replace another part.

Where would America's automotive identity be without the Detroit 3? and sell out to the Chinese? Hell no over my dead body!

All of the Big 3 have already done that . . . go look at a sticker of any of theirs and see how much of the vehicle has U.S. made parts. If these three are "American Made," then the sticker would say 100 percent USA Made. As for your dead body, ahem, it's already occurred. :rifle:

Yup, I support bailout for 3 big companies.

I'm personally dislike hybrid car but prefer to support increase MPG in vehicles.

Why didn't you like the hybrid cars? My brother own a hybrid car and he told me that it save some of his gas because of the electric..

Detriot is one-third empty and it really need help...

Yep, Detroit has been losing the population since around 1950's, when they first posted the population on the negative move in 1960 census. It peaked 1.8 million in the city proper and now it's less than 850,000 estimated from the most recent data.

Wow, the number sounds so rapidly...

Yep....Detroit desperatly needs a new move with a different economic system. They cannot just depend on cars and more cars related jobs which will not help Detroit's economy much. I don't think Obama will actually help Detroit with hybrid move. I'm sorry I have to disagree with that.

Let me tell you this....Seattle area's economy is based on many different things....avation, high tech, tourism and some more. Seattle had the mistake similar to Detroit, so it has changed now. It did impact Seattle's population a little bit in 1960's to 1980's when Boeing crashed and caused the economic system to crash in Puget Sound area.

I wonder what's wrong with the hybrid cars? I agree with you, it has to be variable to help the ecomonic because not everyone would want the hybrid car.

Yup I can see that, the Washington's ecomonic was not so bad and the population remain growing. I haven't seen any population in Washington that drops..

Yeah.

Oh Garfield County lost population a little bit, LOL

Why not let Detriot die in peace and move all the big 3 to somewhere in the South?

Houston, Atlanta, Jacksonville-Duval, Memphis and even Little Rock would be good choices for them

Hybrid car isn't my type because of high maintenance cost, expensive to produce and low mph when compared to gas powered car for now, they will improve in near future but I prefer to see other energy source, fuel cell is one of my #1 high priority. Hybrid technology will getting cheap in next few years and allows companies to make more profit.

I prefer gas powered vehicle because of my performance.

It would be good idea due low tax.

unfortunately, detroit's economy is so poor and their city so run down that no large businesses want to take the risk of setting up shop there.

it's similar to the problems milwaukee, wisconsin has. they used to have breweries 30 years ago which helped stimulate their economy, but after they all left in the 70s and 80s, the city suffered as a result. a few large, reputable businesses have taken their place, but they don't have as much of an impact as the breweries did.

Yup, Detroit has massive white flight since 50's and got more worse in after riot in late 60's, city of Detroit is decline so sharply since suburb of Detroit is boom so rapidly and most of them are stable or still growing for now.

Same with Milwaukee for white flight, both of them are in rust belt, rust belt are dying and more Americans are moving to south and west.

that's true.

if i remember correctly, detroit's population is 97% african-american and 3%caucasian.

milwaukee's population has shifted from caucasian in the 50s and 60s to mixed african-american and caucausian in the 70s and 80s to african-american, latinos and hispanics in the 90s and today.

the mayor of milwaukee is trying to encourage population growth by building expensive condos near the lakefront in downtown. while this has increased the population some, it is not enough to make up for the city dwellers who used to live in the area over the past 30 years.

I see... Well I just happened to feel like the hybrid cars are great, I never feel any weird rumbling engine like the gas cars when I rode in my brother's car (we are close relationship so we hang out in the car very often), also the hybrid cars are more enviroment friendly compare to the gas cars, in the fact...

I prefer gas powered vehicle because of my performance.

And I prefer the hybrid cars for my earth-home's sake.
