Can LINKSYS WRT54GL work with VP-200 somehow?

Check to see if your router is one of the following: If it is, then download the firmware at http://www.dd-wrt.com , follow instructions and flash your linksys. If you are not comfortable with flashing, I suggest you don't do it, you could make your Linksys a paperweight/doorstop.

1.) DD-WRT supported/tested router hardware versions
Router: Serial Number prefixes:
Linksys WRT54G 1.0 CDF0xxx or CDF1xxx
Linksys WRT54G 1.1 CDF2xxx or CDF3xxx
Linksys WRT54G 2.0 CDF5xxx
Linksys WRT54G 2.2 CDF7xxx
Linksys WRT54G 3.0 CDF8xxx
Linksys WRT54G 3.1 CDF9xxx
Linksys WRT54G 4.0 CDFAxxx
Linksys WRT54G 5.0 (JTAG only with cfe update, see Flash your WRT54G or WRT54GS v5 series (v5, v5.1, v6) - WRT Wiki)
Linksys WRT54GL 1.0 CL7Axxx
Linksys WRT54GL 1.1 CL7Bxxx

Linksys WRT54GS 1.0 CGN0xxx or CGN1xxx
Linksys WRT54GS 1.1 CGN2xxx
Linksys WRT54GS 2.0 CGN3xxx
Linksys WRT54GS 2.1 CGN4xxx
Linksys WRT54GS 3.0 CGN5xxx
Linksys WRT54GS 4.0 CGN6xxx

Linksys WAP v1.0 (micro only)
Linksys WAP v2.0 (micro only)
Linksys WAP v3.0 (micro only)

Linksys WRTSL54GS CJK0xxx

Linksys WRT300N v1 (v24 only)

I am planning on buy Linksys WRT54G I don't have linksys Router yet. I will save this info until I get Router soon as possible.

Exactly, one mistake then router becomes junk and only way to retrieve them is to send to factory, which is going to cost more than its worth.
I generally encourage keeping set up as simple as possible, reason? So whenever there is trouble, much easier to do troubleshooting. :)

I DO know some WRT54G router DO work with VP as long as VP is connected **WIRED** to the router NOT wirelessly!

I am not planning use Wireless on VP.. I just plan use *WIRED* with linksys Router and VP. Plus I need a Wireless because I have laptop.

* I know linksys with CISCO won't work with VP. I will find other way...

I once went the 3rd party firmware route with my WRT54G V.2 and it still would not work. I may try again later, but when I did it refused to work. I broke down and bought a D-Link router. Still have the Linksys, but the new one works so well, I won't bother.

Today I got Linksys WRT54G 1.0... Can anybody tell me how I can get it work with VP-200? I couldn't get them to work.

I tried custom firmware before on my linksys, several different firmware and I couldn't get none to work.

I think it hardware related that Cicso cut corner to manufacture linksys router cheaper by designing hardware differently and left out the protocol needed by VP.

I will try that DD-WRT since I have not tried that one yet but I have tried Sveasoft and some other firmwares and none of them worked for me.

No, you misunderstand
DNS can Primary- 192.168.1.1 and secondard- blank, they will work VP-200
if you own ISP's DNS will often change per year fur update new techology

don't worry, DNS can 192.168.1.1 but Router know own ISP's DNS

Technically he (rhr) is right.

VP-100/200 will not be able to update the DNS server IP whenever the ISP changed their owners, or system, for example; Time warner bought out Adelphia, then the DNS server may be outdated and if you used it on VP-100/200 it may not be able to update itself, resulting missed calls issues, empty contact list, and you might not be able to make outgoing calls but can get incoming calls. That is why it is never good idea to put in your ISP DNS address on your VP configuration. Set it up in your router instead.

The best way to set up DNS on VP-100/200 as following

Your router IP address as primary DNS, should be same as gateway IP address shown on your VP.

Secondary DNS, I would recommend 208.67.222.222 or 208.67.220.220. (Owned and operated by OpenDNS. org) Reason? They are more stable DNS server, and is public owned server meaning they will always be there no matter what. The Secondary DNS on your VP unit acts as "back up" in event the router/modem fails to update the DNS configuration. Do not use public DNS in your router, that way you will always have two extra back ups.

Yes that is right SVP200 and VP100 does not automatic for DNS
