Hey Can I get LINKSYS WRT54GL to work with VP-200 somehow? I know Linksys with Cisco won't work with VP-200 but I wonder if somehow this Router can work with VP-200 maybe using SR-200 with that Router?

I have Linksys WRT54G ver. 6 and haven't test with VP.

Just better to buy one and test it, also if not work then return to store.

I do not know if the WRT54GL works with VP's,, however, using the SR-200 isn't going to make the WRT54GL work (for wired applications). Configuring the WRT54G as a wireless access point and plugging it in to the SR-200 might work for a wireless network, however you can't plug the vp into it. You would need a wireless brdge to do that. This is the same as your old situation with 2 routers in an older thread so it isn't worth it.

You can get an Open-Source firmware update for your linksys routers. A friend of mine has the Linksys WRT54g router that does not work with VP. Then he downloaded the open source firmware for his Linksys router... lo and behold, VP works! Think of it as removing Windows from your PC and replacing it with Linux. More information can be found here - DD-WRT Notice in the screen shot below, it works for WRT54G/GL/GS - so chances are it will work for your router.

I saw your setting have a 10.x.x.x, then does not work with a VP boxes, you need to get real router and I recommend get a Dlink router works with any vp boxes.

Where did you hear that 10.x.x.x will not work?? That is absolutely wrong. I have seen many VPs use 10.x.x.x and they work fine. Of course, D-Link router is easiest, but assuming the person already has a Linksys router, and does not want to pay for a D-Link, then this firmware replacement works just fine.

Does require to have Linux to use this program? I'm wonders that would fix Xbox Live that allow all games to communicate without any problem, such as no missing connection or unable to get in host.

It supposed to fix on my router and Defmatrixense's router too, also both of them are hate to communicate with other gamers or able to get in host.

Linksys and Belkin are asshole, screw on Cisco.

No, that is not true, any NAT approved pool of IP WILL work with VP. 10.0.xxx.xxx IS approved NAT pool, there is other approved NAT pool which is 172.25.xxx.xxx also 192.168.xxx.xxx that we all know of.

Private IP - What is it?

Private IP addresses range from:
10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255
172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255
192.168.0.0 - 192.168.255.255

Note the range above, that is approved NAT IP address, you can use any of these IP address with your VP *AS LONG AS* the port in assoicate with these NAT address you set up is open. For example, you wanted to set your NAT on your router to 10.90.150.1 then you can set your VP to 10.90.150.235 then make sure your router DMZ set to 10.90.150.235, make sure your gatway is set to 10.90.150.1 then it would work just perfectly. I have done that and that is how I am doing and not even one problem in the last 3 years.

*Note* that is just example, and this is not what my NAT IP is and am not disclosing for security reason.

About router, generally almost any routers will work with VP as long as it supports H.323 protocol and port forwarding in assoicate with VP. The only problem is that *SOME* Linksys router, depending on which version do not support H.323 and that would cause problem with VP.

diehardbiker is correct. The 10.x.x.x is considered the Class A private network using 8-bit block. The Class C is the infamous 192.168.x.x that we know of. 172.x.x.x is the Class B. You can find more info here - Private network - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

No, it does not require Linux to run. You can run Windows, MAC, Linux, Solaris or any OS with the upgraded firmware for Linksys. If you need to use Xbox and VP, I suggest you setting VP with port forwarding and Xbox to DMZ.

I don't own VP yet but supposed to get soon.

I did set on port forwarding and DMZ for Xbox Live then it doesn't work with Linksys firmwire (first party).

VP is not alone to not work with Linksys, also Xbox got same problem but Cisco rejected to deal with them to fix it via firmwire update.

Just better to not buy Linksys or Cisco related anymore. :ugh:

You can NOT enable both DMZ and port forward at same time! If you need to port forward with 2 or more devices, then you need to disable DMZ, then set port forwardinng on specific NAT IP address, can't have one port forwarding on two or more IP addresses. For example, VP requires port 1720 forwarded on whatever VP private IP address is. Then you would port forward any number EXCEPT 1720 on your gamer private IP address.

You can use both DMZ and Port Forwarding. Most routers fall through the port forwarding first, to make sure there are any specific instructions, if there are none, then it falls back on DMZ. Example, my web server is on Port 80, I have defined port forwarding to my web server IP address and I have port forwarding for my surveillance camera on port 4500. I had my VP-200 on DMZ and all three devices worked fine. But I later changed my VP-200 to port forwarding on 1720 for a cleaner configuration. But if you are using Port Forwarding and DMZ for the same device, i.e. XBox, it will work but it is silly... it will fall through Port Forwarding first, and find the Xbox IP address and not bother running through DMZ. As Pacman may have found, his Xbox does not work right, he probably did not define the right ports.

Can you tell me how get firmware upgrade for linksys Router? So I can upgrade and get it to work with VP? I don't want get D-LINK router.. D-LINK router made me :dizzy:

Word of caution, if you upgrade firmware on Linksys, there is good chance that you will KILL VP compatiblity. I wouldnt recommend that!

I'm not talking about the Linksys firmware, that DOES NOT work with VP... I'm talking about the 3rd party open-source firmware that WILL allow your Linksys to work with VP. This requires extensive knowledge of hardware, software and know-how. If you are not familar with firmware upgrades, I recommend you not "break" your Linksys by goofing up if you try and 'oops'.

Oh, Is there any chance that I can get linksys Wireless Router to work with VP? I don't want get D-LINK I has lot problems with it. Should I look up for Router on internet without CISCO logo on it.

Check to see if your router is one of the following: If it is, then download the firmware at http://www.dd-wrt.com , follow instructions and flash your linksys. If you are not comfortable with flashing, I suggest you don't do it, you could make your Linksys a paperweight/doorstop.
