I chose Dish Network, but I've heard that Direct TV is better? I wouldn't know, though. We've only had cable (which we've had for years), and an 18 mos stint with Dish nework before our finances took a hit, and we went back to cable. We're eventually planning to go back to satelite some time in the future. When we do, I think Dad is going with Direct TV. I'll let you know how the two satelites compare then.

Dont go to direct tv, They are very expensive. I had direct tv and saw a lot of hidden fees and surcharges. Like the USSB Merger crap .USSB was just for movies. Direct Tv was just for Sports and programing. But USSB made movie channels really cheap but when the merger came it hurt customers and jack up prices. Like i want congress to make laws against mergers. Just like laws we cant buy NFL tickets from scalpers. Thats another case why i dont like the police. Cause theyre undercover cops at NFL and World Series games. I have every right to watch the super bowl or at the world series in person but if you buy ticket from an undercover cop he will bust you. How can you watch the game if theyre sold out? And they said the reason why they made the law it because it hurts the league and the ballclubs? Well isnt mergering hurting customers?

Thank you for the info. But, it's not my call to make. It's Dad's decision. I don't really care what satellite company we go with, so long as we lose the cable. I really don't like cable. It doesn't compare to satellite.

I have Directv and yes, Ravensteve it is very expensive, If you can afford it then get it if not then don't get it. I could afford it and never had hidden cost with mine. :D

Cheri look at it very carefuly. Look for Partal month. Thats an hidden charge. And Sales tax bull. You get your calulator see if the sales tax is right. sometimes they charge you $16.00 on a sales tax. Thats why i got dish network cause i stop feeding the pig.

I don't know the deal about hidden costs. I'm sure it's possible, though. Lord knows they put hidden costs on the phone bill. As for the general cost of sattilite, though, Cheri's right. Sattelite is more expensive than cable. We ended up saving something like $30 when we switched from The Dish to Comcast. However, we sacrificed quality when we did. Satellite offers digital programming. So does our cable, but only certain channels are digitized. Therefore, the reception is still crappy with cable. :ugh: You can tell I don't like cable.

I am looking at it right now Ravensteve my sale tax is only $4.68, HBO/Cinemax monthly is 23.00 Total Choice Local channels 39.99 Directv protection plan 5.99 <<< I choose that membership because, It would not cost me anything for service charge on service calls If I have a problem with my reciever or sattelite, repairs are free, parts are free. :)

Cheri that protection plan is a total rip off You should have got total choice silver cause youre missing all those cartoons.

Cox's digital cable plus high-speed internet. Easy to install with simple call. I dont see any needs for Direct TV or Dish Network and their bulky accessories.

Heres How Cable Rips you off. They Charge you these Crap.
Franchise Fee
State Tax
County Tax
Local Tax

So another bullcrap look on your cable bill see how much theyre ripping you off.

Not to me it isn't a rip off because you have no idea how expensive those parts are. Last time I paid 130.00 on one part on the sattline, I don't want to go through that again so it protect me from paying so much again. That part I paid was covered under the protection plan so I rather to have that in case anything happen in the nearest future. :)

We do not need that much cartoons, We have plenty.

I have Time-Warner cable for my TVs, and it includes RoadRunner internet for my computers. I pay one fee, no-matter how many TVs and computers that I have. When lightning hit my internet modem, Roadrunner replace my modem for free, and did not charge for the service call. Our service has been consistant, with very rare service interruptions. We have the basic channels, and we only watch less than half of them, so we are very satisfied. Their tech assistance has been very helpful, and even when we ask them questions about internet or computer problems that don't relate to their modem, they still help us (for free).

I have a Deaf friend who has Direct TV and she said that every time it rains it messes up their reception. It rains often here, so that is very annoying. They use Comcast for internet, but because they don't use Comcast for their cable TV it increases the internet cost.

Maybe they hook it up in the wrong area where it usual get wet, I never had problems when it rains, but when it thunder storm I would have problems It would leave a message on my bottom screen on my TV "Standing by searching for satellite". ;)

Reba,,,But look at all those rip off taxes you gotta pay. You see sattelite cannot charge you local and county tax because of the FCC regalations. Thats why a lot of homeowners assn,Or cities cannot tell you cannot put a dish up. The law was reversed by congress and the FCC.The reason why homeowners assn and your city dont want you have a DSS System cause theyre not reciving the money.Thats why cable companies sign a lease with your city and the homeowners assn, Cause they charge you local and county tax and people are dumping the cable and getting a DSS system.
