I believe neither should be working as dispatchers and are, therefore, guilty of this woman's death for not sending help, never mind the fact that Robert will now have an instilled hatred for the police . . . and rightly so.

GULP...This is scary situation!
I think it is part of *murder* for not taking up responsibility for mother's death...You know, I've wondered that same thing. I can understand on a cell phone, but home phones, that's ridiculous.Y said:I thought that 911 system is able to identify

If yes, then why do these operators waste time
by asking questions "where " etc ?

They should send the cops over NO MATTER WHAT.diehardbiker65 said:There has to be reason behind. Perhaps to verify that this is not prank calls. If the prankster would call them, the chances are they won't tell the exact location and couldn't match whats on the 911 operator screen. That is one way they can screen out for prankster. If caller couldn't provide the exact location, instead of giving wrong information then dispatcher should send somebody over.
That's still different--cell phones are movable, and the 911 center knows if you're on a cell phone (or other mobile device) or not.diehardbiker65 said:Some Cell phone got GPS built iun, enabling Dispatcher to trace whereabout the cell phone. It is now mandatory on all new cell phones. SK II is likely to have GPS built in, where most SK I don't.

And by assuming that any kid who calls is a liar or a prankster, of course.Jolie_77 said:Oh, That is what I wonder too. I think it's because the dispatchers are trained to ask where you live, so and on just to keep you on the line in case an emergency rises until the police/fire dept/emt arrives. Yes, I'm aware that the 911 system has a tracing device that can trace your call. Remember the dispatchers are "trained" to keep the callers at a calm mode and sometime when people are in a panic, they will ramble on to something and probably not making any sense out of it. That is why the 911 dispatchers are trying to dig some information out of the caller to pass it to the emergency services so they will be aware of what they are facing upon arrival. Whether it's a common question or not, That's how they try to do it.

What's even more sad is that this is VERY COMMON. I have actually seen MORE cases where the dispatchers just ignore kids than actually sending someone out in time.Jolie_77 said:But then, that's why they try to dig out the information to sense if it is a prank or not. However it was wrong - They should send out the emergency service out in the first place. When in doubt, Send them out! It saddens me to see that this 2 dispatchers didn't do the job professionally.

Taylor said:Pete, I'm not sure that this will happen. Its not as difficult as you may think to get dispatchers (or officers) fired for negligence. We are not talking about a simple mistake, but a life was lost due to the negligence. Additionally, they are being charged criminally and if their department is like mine, thats the end of the job, contract or not...union or not. And these dispatchers deserve everything coming to them.
