A 38-year-old man has been charged with shooting dead a teenager who tried to pull out of a game of Russian roulette.

Anson Paape allegedly shot Michael Murray in the head during a card game to celebrate the boy's 18th birthday at Paape's home in the Chicago suburb of Elmhurst last week.

The pair were reportedly playing a variation of Russian roulette with four other teenagers, but when Murray drew the winning hand, he refused to participate in the deadly game.

"Michael Murray won the hand that cost him his life," said DuPage County State's Attorney Joseph Birkett at a press conference.

"He refused to shoot his gun, so Paape took the gun in his hand, spun the cylinder, placed it on this young man's head and pulled the trigger, ending this young boy's life."

Paape fled the scene, but was arrested on Sunday on a tip-off from the public. He faces up to 60 years in jail if convicted on the first-degree murder charge, a spokeswoman for the attorney's office said.

Jeez! Why the hell were these people playing the game in the first place! Damn!

Absolutely psychologically crazy!! Just what was going thru these minds of theirs? Or were they drugged and couldn't comprehend what they were actually dealing with? Although, it's sad enough that this boy who won his hand and even backed out yet ended up getting killed....*sighs*...where-ever they got these guns from and whose idea it was to play this frivolous game ought to be behind bars! Not a sure way to have a 'blast' on his 18th b-day!!!

The boy took his life on his 18th Birthday? Oh geez!

Remind me of that movie "The Deer Hunter" something like that.
