This is another news related to the political campaign sign.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Shawn Turschak of Chapel Hill was tired of someone stealing McCain-Palin campaign signs from his yard. Turschak, with a degree in electrical engineering, hooked up a third sign to a power source for an electric pet fence Monday and also put up a surveillance camera.

The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that a 9-year-old boy with an Obama-Biden sign grabbed the McCain-Palin sign and got a jolt on Tuesday.

The boy's father, Andrew Noble, upset that his son had been shocked, showed up at Turschak's door. Soon an Orange County sheriff's deputy also showed up at the Turschak's home.

Noble said his son just wanted to see how the sign was put together. Turschak said the boy intended to swap out the signs.

Sheriff Lindy Pendergrass said he doesn't plan to file charges.

The owner should be tried for reckless endangerment.

The boy could have been killed.

In the video, There was a warning sign that noted there was an electric fence.

So, would that still count as a reckless endangerment even though there was a warning sign front of the electric fence? :hmm:

The whole incident is stupid.

Once again, people allow themselves to be caught up in trivial shit, such as rigging their idiotic lawn signs, whether they be supporters of either candidate. Truly pathetic.

Rigging up an electrical fence to a political sign?

The shock wouldn't have killed him. I remember messing around with those fences while growing up on our farm. Still and all, its a little over the top, I'd say.

I agree, It is pathetic.

This kind of thing was not necessary. It just makes me wonder how bad it will get especially when the election is just right around the corner?

Was it really the kid's fault? Was he really aware of what he was doing when he was trying to remove the sign? What if it was really the kid's parents that encouraged him to do so? If that's the case, the parents should be to blame for encouraging the kid to trespass on other people's property.

I can see your point Vampy, but that doesn't excuse Turschak from rigging up an electric fence to a McCain sign. IMO, that was a completely unnecessary and idiotic thing to do.

Kids will always do the damnedest things, they don't understand the idea of consequences long after they develop the ability to reason. Yeah,it was cruel, but should have been a learning lesson as agressive preventionary measures will turn the kid from an offender to a victim.

I remember electric fence.. they're not as painful as like... Tazer. They give similiar effects as you'd get from too much static shock.

But I think if anyone attempts to steal a sign and gets shocked, he deserves it!

Well, if there was no sign there and the kid still trespassed on that property... he would still have been shocked. :)

Besides, is the kid really to blame? Should we be blaming the parents for encouraging him to do so?

If the parents encouraged him, then yes. However, we don't know if that's the case. For all we know, it could have been a childish prank.

That is HORRIBLE!!! Who in their right mind would make a nine-year old child do such a thing? This campaign is going too far; they should close it in some states.

since the boy was holding another poster - presumably to replace it with Obama poster.... I doubt this is a prank. I don't think 9 years old give a day about politic. I think the parents coached him to do it because who is going to arrest 9 years old boy?

If that happened, it wouldn't be fair considering other states where campaigning and voting are allowed up until November 4th.

Besides, these kinds of things are happening all over the place. Just look at all of the McCain/Palin/Obama effigies that are being hung this Halloween. If we were to ban campaigning because of these idiotic acts, there wouldn't be an election.

That could very well be. At the same time, I wouldn't underestimate a 9 year old's interest in politics. Some kids are alot smarter than we give them credit for.
