Bott/"Fun Thread"/Chinese food...

Oh goodness, I like all Eastern foods. My favorite Oriental dinner is Hunan, Sichuan for Chinese or any Thai, Vietnamese or Japanese. We would need another thread if I told all the Indian I love.

So a typical meal that I like to cook would be..

Gyoza
Velvet Corn Soup with egg drop noodles
Dancing rice (steamed rice with bonito flakes)
Chilled firm tofu cubes seasoned with grated ginger, sliced scallion and garlic paste
Garlic pork or chicken
Hot teas
Tofu pudding or baobing (shaved ice with syrup, fruit or condensed milk)

Thats what I make, anyone like to try it?

I would. I don't know what is Gyoza?

Gyoza is pan fried dumplings filled with your choice of pork or tofu, cabbage and seasonings. My recipe makes a huge platter full. I make them first with veggies, then veggie tofu, then pork so that all can choose what they like or have all three.

I make a garlic sesame oil dipping sauce for them too.

Originally was Jiaozi, from China, but now is considered Japanese! : )

I'm in love with Japanese cuisine. I like Indian curry and such, haven't tried much else. The Korean food I've tried has been good, but I don't have extensive experience with it so I can't judge the food as a unit. My experiences with Thai food have been not good at all.....blech. Chinese is good. I'm a fan of the local Dim Sum place. Yum! I've never tried Vietnamese food. I ought to, at some point.

All in all, though, if I had to pick one....Japanese. Sushi ftw. Sashimi-even better.

But then, I'm a sucker for good seafood. And tea. I'm a sucker for tea.

I love many E. Indian curries and biriyani:)
when I was in CA with my husband, parents to see my aunt some years ago we tried some real Vietnamese food at this little place - it was quite good and fun to try different people's stuff! It was about 10 years ago now, this little restaurant that you wouldn't even know was there, about 5 tables with the center-piece inserts that can go around on the table surface.

Where in Cali were you? This sounds intriguing.

 I'll try to remember...or ask my aunt and uncle:)
we've been there a few times since then and ate at various places-

I am craving bul go gi and kim chee. Not Chinese, its Korean, but it is so good.

i love kim chi. i have some in the fridge. it only has about 16 calories per serving.

I used to love Kim Chi... now I don't think I can stomach it. Even the smell... sigh. sorry.

We were supposed to have Chinese for lunch tomorrow, but I forgot to buy the necessary stuff. So, we will have something else instead. All I have is the Vegetable Spring rolls.

@ katerivera - me too. I love to meet people from different cultures and learn new and authentic recipes. That is how I learned to make the food I listed above. My Indian friends taught me curry and Bebonang sent a recipe for native fry bread. Oh it was really good.
