I will buy scooter instead.

Do I care? NOT!

These auto makers and unions have been very greedy over years, now it is payback time for them.

Believe it or not, a good family car cost less than $5k back in 70's now it is already over $30K

Yup, I support Pelosi's idea about recover the auto industry because I love some vehicles from Ford and Chevy, Chevy is part of GM.

In other thread that where Sequioas posted and they made big mistake to make too many SUV that couldn't sell so well and they need cut on produce of SUV then make more regular car or other plan to develop new car with efficient fuel or something.

Mistake? Nope it is not mistake, it is called GREEDY! They all think is what?
M O N E Y! And yes that is all they understand, yet won't understand anything else. Is it U.S. Government's problem? I don't think so, why? Uncle sam made several attempt to get this reversed over years and failed because of ignorant automaker executives!

I don't consider your post as always true because you don't post any source to have support with your comment, even it's your opinion and have you read link at first post?

Check out in other thread, Sequioas made good point.

Sure here is the link gas guzzler loophole

This shows how these greedy auto maker dodged around these to avoid trying to improve their vehicles to be less gas consumption. Why? It is all about P R O F I T!

Now they are facing cosequences.

Why do you think Japanese vehicles are well ahead? That is because Japanese THINK about future not now like these American automakers are.

Sure Sequoia made good point, his point valid for today, not 15 years ago. I am speaking for 15 years ago where U.S. government tried to convience US. Automaker to be more fuel efficient, they (Automaker) refused, now they are paying huge price for refusing. Now that my point is.... *IF* US automaker are smart enough 15 years ago to start then they won't have this mess right now.

Ok, thanks for link.

I'm not surprised about US automakers have been done with all damage in funds.

If Ford is going bankrupt then I would hate to see Ford Mustang and Ford Escape to be gone, same with GM for Chevy.

Oh, I remember about gas price were cheaper in 15 years and SUV is boom so quickly in 90's.

I would wonders if any penalties for automakers if they fail to meet standard needs, such as increase mpg and increase of produce on fuel efficient.

Yeah, I think the damage is done.In fact, this is NOT the first time or second time it happened. It is now third time.

First one was early 70's, second was mid 80's and now is third time, why automaker have not learn lesson? Go figure!

So back to point, should Uncle Sam bail them out if they refuse to learn lesson?

I think about bailout would have something with regulation that they could spend money for that, if spend money on gas guzzler vehicles are really no excuse and need be on their own funds, Do you think they will learn lesson after 3rd time?

Is it possible for Ford and GM goes to bankrupt?

I would not opt for bail out, because suppose if in 30 years later, these automaker makes the same mistake, they WILL think Uncle Sam will bail them out.

This is NOT acceptable.

What I believe is best solution for them is the B word.

That way, Bankruptcy court can enforce all the changes, eliminating those that hurt the companies and make them smaller companies. This way, they will retain those that would result true long term income.

Once Bankruptcy done, most companies will do everything to avoid repeat the same mistake, verses with bail out which is easy way out for them. No more easy way out for them. Let the lesson BE LEARNED.

Maybe some of you wondering why Bank is exception?

Well yes bank made mistakes, I think should not bail out BUT because banks has not made serious mistakes for around 75 years. I know about S&L bail out during 80's, that time it was not that severe as right now. So far, major banks made second serious mistakes, I hope they learn hard lesson which I can see that they have. This time, the mistake that banks have made was ultra-easy credit for mortgages, looks like it won't happen again for years to come.

They should bail out the Big Three in order to prop Michigan and Southern Ontario economy which are clearly hurt hard by the massive layouts at automobile and car parts-manufacturing plants. My friend told me last week that the workforce at his workplace had been cut by about half because the layoffs at the Big Three forced the company to do it in order to save money. But he said the affected employees would be brought back if the Big Three get bailed out.

I'm vehemently against any bailout for anyone, including the one the airline industry received after 9-11. Sink or swim . . . bailout is not an option.

because it did not have airbags, hundred of sensors, seat belts, materials that will save your life in accidents, power window/lock, ABS brakes, list goes on...

Is the safety of your life worth $5k or $30k? :hmm:
