When I graduated from my university alma mater, I participated in a spring ceremony when I noticed many people dressing like they were going to the Prom only they were graduating with me! I thought it was funny, because they fussed with their hair and clothes.. only to have a dang black gown hiding an expensive dress and the hairdo squashed by the grad cap. :rofl:

I know afterwards they will celebrate with family and friends, and that's cool. It feels good to have such accomplishments like graduating from an university. :)

I only wore a pair of white jeans, sandals, and a black polo tee shirt with some makeup. I am very casual and laidback and I do know people have individual tastes.

I thought I would mention a funny irony in life I have noticed with ya'll from my own perspective. :Oops:
 
I know how you feel. I did the same thing. The original plan for my graduation was that we would go out for my graduation ceremony, then come back home. That's it. We did plan on going out for dinner after going home for a bit. Well, when I got ready... I wore jeans and a t-shirt. My parents got mad at me for dressing like that. I tried making my point and they just wouldn't listen. I ended up wearing $50 pants, a$40 shirt, $60 shoes, and $70 cologne... that you couldn't even see or smell during the graduation ceremony! :crazy: When I finished, I pointed out to my parents about how you couldn't even see what I was wearing and they simply replied, "It's the thought that counts." Jeez! They are just stupid! :crazy:

Yeah, my old high school told us that girls HAD to get white dress and white shoes to match our graduation gown, and I hate wearing dress so I had to buy like $100 worth of graduation dress. I had to buy a prom dress. argh. I never went to project graduation because it was stupid so I went out with my friends instead.
 
What I did after my graduation was attend a graduation casino party set up by my school that took place at a local hotel for the graduating senior class. No one there wore anything nice. I was probably the only person there who was overdressed. My parents told me that if I was overdressed, I'd be the most handsome person at the party. I kept telling them that it's not being handsome that counts, it's who I am. They then said that my appearance tells others who I am. When I went to the party, some of my friends teased me about what I was wearing. They told me that I look better without dressing up like that. I then told my parents and they simply told me that my friends weren't really my friends. Jeez! My parents just won't listen! :fu2:

LOL when I look at this thread. Bring my memories back!!

During my sophomore year, I wore prom dress. Not really make me so happy. Coped and lot of patience. One year later as my junior year, I wore black shorts, pink tux tie, white shirt, and black vest with white spots (opposite of dalimation). In my senior year, I skipped prom after found out wearing shorts are banned. Whew, glad i enjoy my best prom with my shorts. *snickering*

About HS Graduation Ceremony, oh my, I cannot believe about how I survived with people bribed me for doing a favor. My grandma, two different principals (High school and TSD), few teachers, and counselor begged me to wear real DRESS that mean not allow jeans or shorts. They dared me if I don't wear real dress then I will be banned from participate in the ceremony. Sigh, I didn't realized they scolded and knew my reputation of being a tomboy for a whole high school years I have been thru. I do believe they want to see my "non-tomboy" day. Make them proud. :thumbd: But I did make it to get over!

Haha @ Lasza -- I not know that you did! I have to wore DRESS to graduation and prom. :ugh: at myself!!

I was begged to wear tux to my prom but never did til I was :o at one girl (stone butch) wore tux -- :(
 
I was forced to wear white dress and shoes under my white graduation gown at HS. Pretty lame. :sure:
 
When it came to my class' graduation, we were forced to cough out 55$ for a gown and another 20bucks for the cap... and then we had to return it back or we would get fined $100. WTF?! No refund??? :madfawk:

I was SO close to not attend the ceremony because of the dress codes *the principal did send out a memo to all seniors that the females MUST wear knee-length skirt etc... and if anybody violates it, they won't get their diploma...*
My mom wept her heart out that she would never see at least ONE of her children graduating in a proper ritual... Mothers.

I was just PISSED about paying for stuff that I don't even get to KEEP! Mom tried to assure me by buying me a tassel but I had it hanging on my doorknob so it was money a-wasted...

I think I was wearing a white husband-beater (with Strawberry Shortcake on the front) and a pair of black pant (defied that sexist memo!)... Mom won't let me wearing my favorite Converse beat-up shoes so I ended up woring mom's snobby slip-ons. It was hot... IN JUNE, FOr frigging sake! PLUS THE POLYSTER GOWN?!?! Jesus...
 
one more thing I just pop my mind when i was at graduation, a girl sit next of me wore jeans and western shirt!!! i was so surprised and i was requied to wore that white with big hole in my back dress!!! lucky, i have gown covering it.... interest thing is i have to give back the gown so i keep my cap and tassel, ofc part of collar....
 
We got to keep the whole thing, in fact I know some bros and sisters share gowns (if about the same sizes). Ours was in black and gold tassels. I am lucky, one year later they changed the gowns to ALL gold.......... whoa too bright lol..... Also, some people dressed up nice cuz people unzipped gowns after graduating and going to the parties........ It was cool and nice to see guys in suit with ties :) very dapper!!!
