MONEY, the love of which is often seen by the Church as the root of all evil, can be as much an agent of holiness as an agent of sin, Dr Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, said yesterday.

In a sermon at Westminster Abbey to a congregation made up of senior members of the Church of England, Dr Williams said that the Church should not be afraid to address money issues.

The way a person spent their money, he said, was part of how they defined themselves, before God and before the world. Referring to the Church’s relationship with its own £3.9billion assets, he upheld the virtues of “risk-taking innovators” as opposed to those conforming to the “historic mainstream”.

Christian leaders through the ages have condemned materialism on the basis of the text in the New Testament letter 1 Timothy which states: “The love of money is at the root of all kinds of evil.”

Oh? now it is agent of holiness? My god. The end of the world must be very near. I mean, churches are now corrupted as well as industries & governments. You know, I start to understand what they mean about '144,000' people who will live thru and blessed by God. Heck, look at these evangelical christians, they practically praise Bush as their lord (maybe he's a anti-christ? But of course evangelical christians will be in massive denial) In other words, these evangelical christians will be wiped out as well. It is indeed sad that evangelical christians didn't heed Jesus's teachings and does it mean that I am right about them? If you didn't get what I mean, read this verse:

"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."

Sad, sad.

I would really prefer to read the entire context before commenting on the article. I am not an Anglican, so I really don't know what the Church of England believes or teaches about money.

Like I said, I don't know the context of your reference, but I do know that money can be used to support world-wide missionaries, preachers, evangelists, Christian schools, soup kitchens, shelters, and other works of God. Money used that way is not "loving" money because the person giving the money is not holding it precious for self use. If the money is earned legally and morally, then no problem.

I really don't know who these Bush "worshippers" are. I have never seen or met any, and our church strongly preaches against putting any man before God. Our pastor frequently emphasizes that the President is not perfect.
