I went to the ER and complained of pains on my side and shoulder. They sent me back home saying it was a gallstone. I went home still in pain, vomitting getting weaker and weaker as the days went by. I finally gave in and went back to the ER. (5 days later) I could barely walk. Eventually passed out. They finally gave me a pregnancy test and did an ultrasound and Lo and behold. I was pregnant and my fallopian tube gave away. (that is when I started bleeding internally) Ectopic pregnancy, I was confused since I had my tubes tied 5 years ago and I still got pregnant. Dr. told me it happens from time to time. They admitted me in the OB and schedule a surgury for me. I had my right tube removed and a D&C and the blood lost cleaned out of my abdominal. After I woke up I was still sick as a dog. The nurse told me the Dr order 5 Units of blood. That is half of a person blood volume. I was not allowed to get up or sit up. They did not want me passing out again. Blood transfusion is a painful process. Imagine something from the freezer going inside your veins. It was cold and painful!! That night I felt better but had nightmares of dead people watching me under the hospital furniture telling me I stole their blood. It freaked me out so bad I told my Dr about the dreams. He thinks it was due to me being traumatized. This all happened Last December. I count my lucky stars that I am here and alive today. :)

Anyone else have a story to share or comments?

Wow, that was truly a traumatic episode for you. I hope you're feeling well now.

I do have some issues left from that incident. But overall I am doing well. Thanks. :)

I am sorry you went through that. I also have dreams as a result of having been traumatized (not in the ER though).

I will not describe the dreams, they are much too graphic.

:aw:Steinhauer, am sorry you went through trauma, too...

had my impacted wisdom teeth pulled my first year in college- previous to that, had never had any surgery so that was scary for me and a challenging time to need to have it done. No lasting trauma from it though-

I am sorry you were traumatized.

I do not get much nightmares anymore. I was really freaked out by recieving 5 other peoples blood. I know they are live donors. The dream of dead people taunting me was horrible! I also had a dream that my body just turned into blood. I was solid but liquid, at the same time. A walking bright red flowing person.

I made an appointment to have a blood test done to make sure everything is OK. Even though blood transfusion are pretty safe. I still need to clear my concious. It would make me feel better.

oh my :grouphug:

no I don't have any medical trauma.

Unfortunately, I've lots of experience with medical things.

Having been born with spina bifida, it required a lot of medical/surgical intervention over the years. In total, I've had 32 surgeries, goodness knows how many transfusions, and, more. And, as for xrays, I don't even wanna think about how much radiation I've been exposed to in the last 40-odd years! :giggle:

I hope you are feeling better, Babyblue.

I think I can understand why you are dreaming about that. Most of the time, when I have nightmares, they don't make sense to me until later why I was having them. In your situation, the meaning is obvious ;)

I even have nightmares regarding close friends and traumas they experienced. It is hard to explain ... when I have a very close friend that is experiencing something bad, it feels sometimes like it is happening to me too.

Yeah, especially if you are exposed to it.

What a terrible experience. The only one I can relate is the one from 2 winters ago when they gave me an antibiotic injection that caused me to go into cardiac arrest.

I'm sure you do still have some issues. You were taumatized.

Unfortunately, we often expect our doctors to be more than human, since we literally put our lives in their hands. But they are human just like everyone else, and make mistakes. Most of the time, it isn't because they are negligent, but simply because the symptoms of so many things look alike. And since you had your tubes tied, ectopic pregnancy would not be the first thing they would think of.

I know that doesn't help the fact that you went through it, though. But, with time, the impact will lessen.

Holy Cow! What antibiotic did they give you? If you do not mind me asking. I have heard of people going into anaphylaxis shock, but a heart attack? Dang you must have been hypersensative to the drug.

Childhood trauma here. The hard thing is that it affects my whole life because it affected my childhood development. After a couple of decades of therapy, I'm doing well. I rarely have nightmares now. It makes me happy just writing that. :D

No, I don't mind. I have had a lifelong anaphylactic allergy to penicillin. They gave me cephlasporin, and I cross reacted. I talked to DeafDoc after it was all over, and she said it is rare, but does happen. That is what happened. An anaphylactic reaction, and my heart stopped. They had to shock me back.

It makes me happy that you are able to write that! Hard work on your behalf, I'm certain.

I had to have an abortion due to an ectopic pregnancy. I was told I would never have any other children. Well, I have a 17 & 16 y/o so they were wrong.

Now, on another note, my mother was having issues and the docs decided to remover her IUD that was inserted when she was 34. Seems the doc had cut the cord off too short and it required a total D&C. Well, one thing led to another and mom started bleeding internally and all. She got some kind of infection that they now are calling MRSA or like that. The CDC was called out and she ended up getting all kinds of transfusions. this was in 1986 and they didn't test the blood for anything except for HIV. Well, she got Hepatitis C and was not aware until 1992 during a routine blood test at her job. They were doing TB tests as well and mom got the news that not only did she have Hep C, she also had the beginnings to cirrhosis of the liver.

Oh my gosh. All for one mistake in the IUD. Since that was nearly 20 years ago, may I ask, how's your mom now?

My mom, before she had any children, had been feeling ill for quite some time, and losing weight to the point where she was seriously thin. She finally went to the doctor and he told her she had a large fibroid tumor and would have to have a hysterectomy. She was devastated as she dearly wanted children, and this would destroy her dream of a family.

But she consented, with a heavy heart, to the surgery anyway, as she was so sick and knew that something had to be done.

So the doc cuts her open, and oops! There's a 6-month fetus in there. Plus a fibroid tumor. So he took out the tumor, left the baby alone, and sewed her back up.

Unfortunately the baby was born the next day, and back in those days (this was 1947) there was nothing that could be done to save it, since it was so premature.

However, over the next 7 years, my mom gave birth to my brother, me, and two sisters. She always felt that the first child who died had "saved a place" for the rest of us.
