Any tablets that can use mobile data and not need WiFi to travel?

If you have a hotspot option on your phone, you can save a lot by using that instead of an actual Internet option. I have one on my phone, and I pay just $10/month for it. Go to Cell Phones | Cell Phone Service Companies | Cricket Wireless to see for yourself.

I have no clue if I have hotspot option on my phone however my 2 sons are extreme gamers (3 running computers total) so I don't think that's a good option for us and besides it says that Cricket Broadband is not available for my area. Thanks for the suggestion though.

What about T-mobile or Sprint? Both have hotspots for a reasonable price, and you wouldn't have to shell out so much for Comcast or AT&T. I have a ClearSpot for just $34.99, and here's the website for that:

www.clear.com

I hope you find what you're looking for

Yeah, don't think they're gonna fall for that. Anyhow, where would I find $30 Internet in Southern IL? My hotspot on my phone itself is a lot cheaper than that-- it's $10/month, and Netflix is $8/month, and I'm not sure Hulu is actually free.

Do you know how many usage cap for your hotspot?

I wasn't aware Hulu was free. Hulu.com? I checked it briefly and I don't see captions on it. Also some shows I chose to view say I must upgrade to Hulu Plus to view it.

I wish internet was $30. My only options are Comcast ($50) and AT&T ($45). My area doesn't have U-verse.

Hulu Plus just allows you to view almost all shows, iPad, iPhone, PS3, etc.

Hulu without Plus allows you works on computer only and limited shows. Don't matter about captions.

I know mine is at 1 GB on my phone, which is why I can't use it a lot up here.

As for my travel hotspot that's not part of my phone, that is a prepaid hotspot, so no limits.

I don't care about your mobile's storage. I talked about usage cap for MIFI.

Our ISP is 250GB a monthly for usage cap.

You mean my ClearSpot? That does not have any limits on it. It's prepaid, and not a 2-year contracted one. If this were from T-mobile or other, than maybe yes, I would have limits, but since it's from Clear, I don't have any (At least I don't think I do).

Do your folks have a landline telephone? Who is that from if they do? I am in Centralia, IL and have a landline from AT&T; DSL internet (AT&T HSI BASIC) runs $28 per month billed with the other telephone service. I can connect things, such as computer and phone, via WIFI.

Just get internet ($30), netflix ($10) and hulu (free). Total around $40 without tax and depend on your area. They are lot cheaper than cable tv. Screw satellite tv and cable tv.

I got Apple TV and paid Netflix and HuluPlus at $7.99 a month each. I have no regrets that I cut the cord off for good.

No, they don't. Used to, but not anymore.

What do they have?

My Dad has a Samsung S II cell phone, and my stepmom has a basic Samsung smartphone, but not as fancy as my Dad or mine is, and obviously with ntouch mobile on it, it's a little more fancier than my Dad's, which doesn't have a lot.

On their phones, do they have internet browser, email, and texting services? How do you keep in touch with them?

My stepmom has text messaging, and my Dad's phone has Internet, but I'm not quite sure he knows how to use it, however. That's why there's not a lot of stuff on his phone.

I haven't read through all the posts, but I'll comment here.

It's not the tablet that allows access to data. It's the applications you run. There are a few ways around it:

1. Use only applications that store data locally on the tablet or laptop.
(for some tablets this might be an issue with space.)

2. Use applications that download data when you are hooked to the network for later use. There are a few applications that will download news feeds so you can read them without network access.
(Drawback is heavy download as soon as you get on your network)

3. Android has hotspot technology built into the operating system. If you have an android phone, you might be able to turn on the hotspot without your phone provider charging for it. You can then tether your tablet or notebook to your phone so that you have access to the net.

My understanding is that the OP is asking about tablets and laptops that can connect to mobile data without another device being involved be it WIFI, a phone or hotspot device.

How do you keep in touch with them?

Can you show your dad how to use his phone?

I have offered to do so, but he's declined.

I can call my parents or text them; either works
