"WASHINGTON — The National Restaurant Association gave $35,000 — a year’s salary — in severance pay to a female staff member in the late 1990s after an encounter with Herman Cain, its chief executive at the time, made her uncomfortable working there, three people with direct knowledge of the payment said on Tuesday.

The woman was one of two whose accusations of sexual harassment by Mr. Cain, now a Republican candidate for president, led to paid severance agreements during his 1996-99 tenure at the association. Disclosure of the scale of the severance further challenged his initial description of the matter as a “witch hunt,” as did new descriptions from the woman’s friends and colleagues of her level of discomfort at work."

"Herman Cain accuser 'got $35,000 in severance pay'
One of the two women who accused Republican White House hopeful Herman Cain of sexual harassment in the 1990s was given $35,000 (£22,000) severance pay over the incident, the New York Times reported on Wednesday.

The newspaper cited three sources as saying that the woman, then an employee at the National Restaurant Association, was given the amount – a full year's salary – after saying the encounter with Cain had made her uncomfortable."

Cain Accuser Got a Year

Here is the rest of that "opinion" :

My hope is that both gag orders get lifted by The Restaurant Association asap. While history tells us that Cain will more than likely walk away from this with little bruising, and may even continue on toward the U.S. Presidency, these women will have an opportunity to tell their stories, and we will get to see exactly how much of a “straight shooter” Mr. Cain really is (pun intended). Of course there is a social-political-media price to be paid for this–by the women, particularly if they are African American (anyone remember Anita Hill?). That being the case, TFW hopes to be a source of media support to Cain’s accusers.

I have already posted links to at least 6 news sites that are calling it a "settlement". Matter of semantics. If it was paid as a settlement in connection to her claims of sexual harrassment against Herman Cain, then it was indeed paid to keep her quiet and make the dirty little complaint go away.

Do you believe everything you read? They call it severance pay but we all know what it really is--hush money.

Sounds like a really low amount for "hush money" Who would give up their job and a big payday for $35,000. Seems like they got poor advice if so.

Then again, maybe it was just another "Darlin', will you doctor my tea"

It has to be considerably more than that for sexual harassment.

Someone who wanted to get away from his unwanted advances and needed time to find another job.

And I got news for you, calling an employee "Dahlin" is patronizing and sexist in and of itself. It certainly is not something that will endear you to the vast majority of female employees. But it was much more than that, I'm sure.

For someone to claim no details have been breached, they really seem to just "know" what the verdict is.

Gee, I wish I was psychic .... I would sooooo run out and buy lottery tickets. :giggle:

"Magic 8 ball should I reply to Steinhauer's post?" *shake shake shake*

"hmm"

I got nothing to say on this.

Cain had made her uncomfortable."

Maybe he had gas..... chewed with his mouth open (major restaurant faux pas)

Whatever it was, I'm sure it's something Cain don't want the public to know about.

Exactly, we will see. I will reserve my judgement until then.

You've already passed your judgment on the victims. But that's okay. You can reserve your defense of Cain until then.
