Because one of my Neighbors Little Girl just
fell off the bike on a street parking lot,
she already got some scratches on
her knee and leg. They pulled her away
from the street.

Which one is better to use Hydrogen Peroxide
OR Rubbing Alcohol on these scratches ??? Which ?

You could use either one. They are both antiseptics, and will do the job. One is not superior over the other one. Although, you may want to use the peroxide as the alcohol would sting like crazy.

Just my two cents.

:ty:

they mentioned about "Povidone-Iodine" Solution, too

I have no idea which is the Best one....

Thanks anyway !

well, I would use the rubbing alcohol. I have always used it if I got cuts from cutting a vegetable or paper cuts. As for scratches etc.. that's what I do too. I am clumsy so I fell sometimes. It sucks!

Also, if there are little pieces of dirt in the scratches or gravel or something, the peroxide will help to bubble all that out. If you don't get the dirt out, alcohol or peroxide won't keep infection away. My son always like me to use peroxide, because he said it didn't hurt as much to get it cleaned up.

I prefer wash the area with soap and water, and then apply an antibacterial ointment, as it doesn't sting, and it seems to reduce scarring as it heals.

I found this info on a first aid website:

Antiseptics
Antiseptics are a group of medicines that arrest or halt the growth of germs and aid in the prevention of infections in minor cuts, scrapes and burns. Antiseptics do not actually kill bacteria. Antiseptics are often included in first aid kits, but the rule of thumb that applies to their use is, only if there’s nothing else.

Antiseptics include hydrogen peroxide, iodine, isopropyl (or rubbing) alcohol, methyl salicylate, phenol, and thymol. If you are going to use any of these, you should ask your doctor or pharmacist how to apply them properly. Do not use antiseptics for any extended length of time.

A wide variety of medical sources caution against the overuse of antiseptics, as these can interfere with the healing process of wounds. Medical and first aid specialists recommend you clean the wound thoroughly with water then apply an antibiotic ointment. Antibiotic ointments will actually kill the bacteria that may infect the wound.

Using antiseptics like hydrogen peroxide, iodine or rubbing alcohol is more appropriate for the area around the wound, but not on or in the wound.

Precautions
If you are going to use antiseptics, use them only for small cuts and scrapes. Antiseptics also should not be used to treat large wounds, deep cuts, puncture wounds, eye injuries, sunburn, other significant burns, animal bites, gritty wounds or pre-existing infections.

Side effects of antiseptics
Hydrogen peroxide can damage skin and mucus membranes. It can also lead to infection, instead of preventing it. Iodine has been shown to occasionally cause a lasting stinging sensation, burn. If you are going to use it, be certain to allow the iodine to dry before dressing the wound (covering with a bandage). Some people develop an allergy to iodine after repeated use.

I prefer to just wash the area with very warm water and soap, then put Neosperin, or similiar, on the area.

If you're looking to save $$, I would suggest either perixode or rubbing alcohol. Ive used perixode for small cuts, scratches and clean my teeth (little perixode with water) while I was broke on SSI. :D

Thanks all for these interesting suggestions !

I guess that's already too late because
I had no idea if there were some dirt particles
leftovers from the pavement where
we should have use soap and water First.
Aw shucks Hope everything will be ok ;)

I am sure it will be fine.

Your neighbor should just watch the area for any kind of swelling or any sign of infection...at the very sign of infection your neighbor should take her/his kid to the doc!
