9/11 Photo Shoot

It isn't healthy to dwell on it either.

Secondly I thought New Yorkers were a tough breed or have they become......."soft"?

yea try telling that to anyone who suffered from PTSD (most likely a severe form of it) who were directly affected by it (meaning - they were there). just saying. Not all New Yorkers dwell on it nor affected by it especially those who were at or near WTC.

My father was near WTC on both incidents (1993 and 2001) and he isn't dwelling on it :)

I remember about shocking story at 9-11 last 8 years ago. I had received lots of breaking news into my Wynd RIM (Blackberry pager while being at my work. I ran to watch tv in my work office. That s sad news. Next several years later, I had stopped to see construction site of twin town at Manhattan.

Some people has start thought about terrorist situation since after WTC bombing in 1993 that where fail to take both of towers down, if successful then could be much as 100,000 people died and become very serious event, someone could say 2/26 and it has repeat at once in 9/11 with different methods by plane crash on WTC.

I have memories about happen to 9/11, not just only for New Yorkers but it's for most Americans and my life were great until 9/11 occurred then it went alot worse. After brought about situation with fly issue in NY that caused me to worried about what happen to NYC and I have really bad memory for 9/11 and there's many plots about terrorist attacks after 9/11 but all of them are failed, thanks to Homeland Security to become more effective to keep us so safe.

I remember about INS and they are divided into ICE and CBP, much more effective than INS.

I believe it was bound to be an accident.

Thou if it was no accident at all, then that pilot is one sick fuck and deserves to be fired.

How do you get over 9-11? For some of those traumatized by this event, consider it a form of Combat Anxiety. Veterans of war have lifetime issues with certain "triggers" that cause anxiety: gunshots, helicopters, etc. Seeing the large jet with fighter escort could serve to increase fear. I would not be comforted by seeing fighter jets near Manhattan. I would be nervous with concerns.

Ok I'm stepping in - Please be considerate of others, take this "anti" comment out of AD.

FAA Memo: Feds Knew NYC Flyover Would Cause Panic
Threatened Federal Sanctions Against NYPD, Secret Service, FBI & Mayor's Office If Secret Ever Got Out

NEW YORK (CBS) ― A furious President Barack Obama ordered an internal review of Monday's low-flying photo op over the Statue of Liberty.

CBS 2 HD has discovered the feds will have plenty to question.

Federal officials knew that sending two fighter jets and a 747 from the presidential fleet to buzz ground zero and Lady Liberty might set off nightmarish fears of a 9/11 replay, but they still ordered the photo-op kept secret from the public.

In a memo obtained by CBS 2 HD, the Federal Aviation Administration's James Johnston said the agency was aware of "the possibility of public concern regarding DOD (Department of Defense) aircraft flying at low altitudes" in an around New York City. But they demanded total secrecy from the NYPD, the Secret Service, the FBI and even the mayor's office and threatened federal sanctions if the secret got out.

"To say that it should not be made public knowing that it might scare people it's just confounding," Sen. Charles Schumer said. "It's what gives Washington and government a bad name. It's sheer stupidity."

The flyover -- apparently ordered by the White House Office of Military Affairs so it would have souvenir photos of Air Force One with the Statue of Liberty in the background -- had President Obama seeing red. He ordered a probe and apologized.

"It was a mistake. It will never happen again," President Obama said.

The cost of the frivolous flight was about $60,000 an hour and that was just for the presidential aircraft. That doesn't include the cost of the two F-16s that came along.

The flight by the VC-25, a modified Boeing Co. 747, and two F-16 fighter jets cost $328,835, Air Force spokeswoman Vicki Stein said.

That includes $300,658 for the larger plane, which flew a three-hour mission, and about $28,178 for the F-16 jets, which flew 1.8 hours each, Stein said in an e-mailed statement.

The NYPD was so upset about the demand for secrecy that Police Commissioner Ray Kelly vowed never to follow such a directive again and he accused the feds of inciting fears of a 9/11 replay.

"Did it show an insensitivity to the psychic wounds New York City has after 9/11? Absolutely. No questions about it. It was quite insensitive," Kelly said.

The mayoral aide who neglected to tell Mayor Michael Bloomberg about it was reprimanded.

oh boy... oh boy..... quite a handful of heads rolling down the street....

Like I said earlier, Your tax dollars at work!

/was waiting for this data to come out.

What a bunch of boneheads! I mean the idiots that didn't let the mayor know. Somebody should be fired.

So much for transparency:

White House Declines to Release Photos of New York City Flyover

Tuesday , May 05, 2009

WASHINGTON —
The White House is refusing to release the controversial photos of Air Force One flying over the Manhattan skyline last week that triggered panic among New Yorkers and an internal review in the Obama administration.

White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Tuesday that there was no need to release them.

"I've watched CNN," he said, noting the considerable coverage from amateur footage. "I didn't notice a lack of archival material from that flight."

He added that he didn't know where to locate the photos taken from inside the plane.

Last week, the Obama administration sent an Air Force One backup plane to fly over lower Manhattan to capture the presidential plane with the Statue of Liberty in the background. The public was not notified in advance that there was no cause for alarm.

Some New Yorkers were reminded of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, sparking chaos as employees evacuated office buildings and emergency call centers were inundated.

President Obama immediately denounced the photo-op, which cost $328,835, calling it "a mistake."

White House Military Office Director Louis Caldera accepted responsibility and apologized for allowing the exercise.

Gibbs said he anticipates the internal review will be completed this week.

PHANTOM AIR FARCE PICTURES

The $328,835 snapshots of an Air Force One backup plane buzzing lower Manhattan last week will not be shown to the public, the White House said yesterday.

"We have no plans to release them," an aide to President Obama told The Post, refusing to comment further.

The sole purpose of the secret photo-op, which sent thousands of New Yorkers running for cover, was to take new publicity shots of the presidential jet over the city.

"The photos . . . are classified -- that's ridiculous," Councilman Peter Vallone Jr., said.

The photos have not technically been "classified," a White House aide said, but they are being kept from public view.

New Yorkers said they could not understand how a president who shares intimate snapshots from the White House could justify keeping these secret.

"So we're not gonna see the fruits of this cruel joke?" said Frank Antonelli, 39, one of the Wall Street traders spooked by last week's flyover.

"I'm not surprised. Obama . . . wouldn't further all the bad publicity by putting out those pictures."
PHOTOS OF AIR FORCE ONE BACKUP PLANE FLYING OVER NYC NOT TO BE SEEN BY PUBLIC - New York Post

abit off topic, but thought some of you should know.
You can get a good documentary titled; "The Falling Man" to understand why America can't handle the 9/11. It is quite bizzare, the whole things is like Freudian mass psychology, the towers being a phallic object to represent America's ego/power whatever you think it is, it got smashed up big time, so it becomes too painful to remember it in certain ways, for instance people were jumping of the building like it was a decision to be either burnt alive or be found splatted (and hopefully identified so the loved ones can have a closure) on the road 1,500 feets below and this is no bullshit, a particular photo was banned after it was been published once on the day after the twin towers was hit, because the whole thing (as thought) to represent failure and whimping of the Americans.
I am not sure if this documentary is available in USA, but i can obtain it, in fact i've seen it. Horrifying as it is raw emotions, and recollections of first hand experiences, it was something to behold. Definitely not for the faint of hearts.

It makes me wonder if pictures or videos were even shot by the government or military in the first place. Maybe it wasn't even done for photo ops. :hmm:

Other than the jet tailing the plane, did anyone see any aircraft that would be in a position to film the flight?

If the pics will never be shown and the feds knew about it, don't you think there's something going on?

Could be used for another purpose than just a photo op.

Maybe just test the military jet response?

Could be anything but cover up to the public in purpose that it was a photo op though it might have been an non--anticipated embarrassment instead.

Who really know? It's indeed strange and suspicious.

Official who OK'd Air Force One jet flyover resigns

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- President Obama has accepted the resignation of Louis Caldera, the director of the White House Military Office responsible for the controversial low-altitude flyover of New York by a 747 plane used as Air Force One, the White House said Friday.
The 747 used as Air Force One flies over the Statue of Liberty in this photo released by the White House.

The photo shoot, which President Obama said he was "furious" with, happened on April 27. The image of a low-flying plane accompanied by an F-16 fighter jet sent some New Yorkers into the streets and into a panic -- reminding them of the tragic 9/11 attacks on the city.

Building evacuations also took place across the Hudson River in Jersey City, New Jersey. Read more of Obama's reaction

Caldera later apologized for the flyover.

"I have concluded that the controversy surrounding the Presidential Airlift Group's aerial photo shoot over New York City has made it impossible for me to effectively lead the White House Military Office," Caldera said in a letter to Obama.

"Moreover, it has become a distraction to the important work you are doing as president. After much reflection, I believe it is incumbent on me to tender my resignation and step down as director of the White House Military Office."

The White House also released a photo of the flyover and a report on the incident on Friday.

In the report, the White House said Caldera, who had been traveling with President Obama when the flyover plans were initially discussed, did not remember a conversation in which his deputy, George Mulligan, informed him of the flyover.

Caldera did not open an e-mail about final plans for the flyover until after it had happened, the report said, noting Caldera had been suffering from severe muscle spasms and had left the officer early on several days.

Although recommendations by several parties involved in the flyover had been made that White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs and Deputy Chief of Staff Jim Messina be informed of the plans, the report said, that job was left to Caldera, who did not pass the information along.

The flyover, officials said, was a training mission -- it was also a government-sanctioned photo shoot.

Military officials estimate the mission and the photo shoot, aimed at updating file photos of Air Force One -- cost $328,835 in taxpayer money.

But they said "the hours would have been flown regardless, and the expenses would have been accrued on a different mission."

Witnesses reported seeing the plane circle over the Upper New York Bay near the Statue of Liberty before flying up the Hudson River. Video Watch the plane fly over Manhattan »

A YouTube video showed people standing in a parking lot, watching the plane approach. As it nears, they begin to run. "Run, run!" said one person. "Oh my God," cried another.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg was visibly angry last week. "I'm annoyed -- furious is a better word -- that I wasn't told," he said, adding that the decision by the White House Military Office and Federal Aviation Administration to withhold details about the flight were "ridiculous" and "poor judgment."

But according to Air Force Capt. Anna Carpenter, local law enforcement agencies and the FAA had been notified of the exercise.

New York Police Deputy Commissioner Paul Browne confirmed that department had been alerted about the flight "with directives to local authorities not to disclose information about it."

Honestly, the photo op story is a load of crap...it is probably a cover story. They are probably testing the avaition system, making sure all of the alerts, communication systems, etc. were working. Why didn't they tell the public? Because they will become instant targets by terrorists who would LOVE to see a 2nd attack right then and there.

They have to test the system to make sure all of the safety measures they've put in are working...to prevent another attack.

I think anytime or anywhere, a low flying jet would set off any fears whether one personally experienced 9/11 or not.
