After 8 years, shouldn't New Yorkers be "over it" by now?

It isn't healthy to dwell on it either.

You're right - It isn't healthy to dwell over it but however, if you had been a victim or your family/friends had been a victim of 9/11 - You'd understand why New Yorkers were feeling unsettled about this.

But even though, The point is - If I had seen an airplane flying too low or too close to the ground (apart from being nearby the airport); I would exactly feel a bit skittish about it. You just never know - Anything could happen.

Oh man, I never forgot about what happened during 9/11.

I still perfectly remember the time and that day, the very day when it happened, precisly 8 years ago.

Same here. I would have thought the same thing if I was there when it happened.

People are forgetting that there was a military jet flying with the airplane.

So therefore, nothing would've happend as the military jet could've shot it down.......:cool2:

Secondly I thought New Yorkers were a tough breed or have they become......."soft"?

Yes, Even though the military jet was flying next to the airplane; It was still enough to make them skittish. The problem is; New Yorkers were not informed of what was going on.

Secondly; They are still a tough breed to be around with but you can't expect them to be a tough breed at all times. They are just as human as we all are too. :cool2:

and where do you think the shot down plane and all the debris from it are going to land?

"Last week, I approved a mission over New York. I take responsibility for that decision," said Louis Caldera, director of the White House Military Office. "While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, it's clear that the mission created confusion and disruption."

Apparently someone dropped the ball on this.....

I see that people failed to see "over it".

In general speaking, when people dont get over with something bad that happen to them, they are making other people suffer with them. Especially co-workers.

New Yorkers weren't having a mass flashback--they were seeing a real plane flying in a potentially threatening pattern. It wasn't a past event that they had to "get over." It was a current event that could have become a repeat of a past event.

It is precisely because it was tailed by a military jet that made it even more frightening. If it was just a normal passenger plane flying by, why would it have a military fighter plane chasing it? Logic would tell you that the big plane was a threat worthy of military interest.

Also, shooting down a huge airliner over a populated area is still dangerous to those below. Debris and fuel all over the place. What about the passengers that could be on that plane?

That's understandable. But I recall a time when I was tossing a football on a farm, and the shadow of the football over a flock of chickens caused a panic, lol.

What was the story when you eventually heard about it?

Well, I was in the classroom. A guy ran in and said two planes had crashed into the Twin Towers, so we turned on the TV in our classroom. It was moments after the 2nd plane crashed.

In that case, If the Federal Authorities did actually inform the state/local authorities; Then why did the Mayor of NYC state it otherwise?

If they were properly informed; It certainly would have ended up on the news all over in NYC to alert these people to be aware beforehand. That did not happen.

I am not on the East coast at all nor had anyone I know personally affected then but I remember it.....remember how eerie it was where I live even and how we had panicked people causing long gas lines here....I don't dwell on it but I sure remember the feeling. And one of remnants of that in the early days after was the unsettling feeling I had when I saw low-flying planes........used to think of how I loved to fly when I saw planes in the sky, before that day - now, when I see a large plane like that, I may think about 9/11 instead. I can only imagine what the folks in N.Y.C felt-

I remember mine, it was the 12th of September, 2001 when everything happened, I just finished having a shower, and went downstairs, the first thing I saw, was my mum coming to me and pointing to the newspaper, that's when I discovered the huge news, and when I was at high school, (was in grade 8 that time) everyone was talking about it and there was one classroom full of students and teachers, mumouring about what happened, while the CNN news was on TV in the classroom, it was blizzare.

I was at home, husband had either taken vehicle in and then used the other one to get to work, or we just one vehicle at time. He called me from car and said, u better turn on tv, something happened.......I turned it on and watched the second plane crash into the Tower. I started calling everyone I knew, it WAS so bizarre....we were supposed to have dog training tonight and I called and said, is it on for tonight and was told they didn't know. But I was home all day cuz I had no way to get anywhere and I remember the eerie-ness of it, it was so still - no neighbors, no cars pass on the street, no planes flying over. And I sat on the couch and cuddled my dogs. And then we did go class that night and I wanted to take both dogs, didn't wanna leave one home alone, wanted to hold everyone together. On the way to class there was all these lines at the gas stations and people were wandering everywhere talking on their cell phones. Everyone seemed dazed.

I have framed photographs of the twin towers on my wall. That event effected me big time.
