I heard they are also called "kola BEAR"...but it doesn't really mean that they are related to bears, right?

heck, they dont even look much like bears! lol

Sad, same with Kangaroo too

Yeah, they've been having a few culling sessions on the kangaroos and koalas just simply because they're expanding faster in numbers than anticipated. Still, I don't like the idea of culling to cut down numbers. I agree with others who have suggested in 'adopting' them out to zoos, wildlife sanctuaries, etc. rather than killing them senselessly.
At the moment, there's been local complaints about a flying fox colony in the biotanic gardens in the CBD of Melbourne and in a Yarra park as well. Wanting that colony to be re located to a less built up area and not near a residential section as well.
Wildlife of all kinds, all over the world had been on Mother Earth for much longer than man (throughout the evolution - for those who believe this). Can't us humans learn to accept the wildlife as part of our lives as they've been there before and along man for thousands of years? They're part of the ecosystem and food system that keeps things balanced. :squint:

I would be damn to hear Koalas being shot and I LOVE them to death! I wish would keep them but need a special diet for them...

I have held a koala myself and yes, they CAN be cuddly and soft..BUT -- in the wild, they are quite defensive and use their claws and piss on people when frightened or provoked.

In answer to Steel's question about whether koalas are related to bears...NO. The answer's no...and there's no 'bear' in the term for the koala at all. In fact, its closest relative is the wombat. ;)

There's another sanctuary that allows people to hold koalas for a picture -- it's at the Currumbin Sanctuary in Queensland. ;)

that makes me mad.. well as for kangroo's they're dangerous at night time on roads.. same here in minnesota.. the dangerous animal at night time is Deer.. they just hop into the road and u're unexpecitally and hit them then ur car's toatalled. same thing as kangroo.. and minnesota don't do anything about killing deers.. just have a hunting season every year in november for deer hunting.. that's the only way they control the animals...
