You can take student loans directly from banks to cover additional costs. Interest rates are higher probably. It will help you build credit if you do it through banks, but they may not be as flexible when it comes to deferring loans and whatnot.

My case is different as my hearing loss is only mild to moderate. But I can speak Chinese (Cantonese) but not read/write. I will probably try to learn Mandarin and how to write Chinese in the next year.
