    CI bashing by certain individuals

Interesting that I never said a name but yet folks stepped right in. You know the saying the saying about assumptions? :) Each of you have very valid points and ultimately we each choose what we read, what we believe, what we do - not someone else. If someone else upsets us, then we're...

    CI bashing by certain individuals

Please help those of us that use this site for information regarding CI's. It is very uncomfortable to be repeatedly bashed for choosing a CI by someone that doesn't even have one. I know several members have contacted the moderators before but really, the continual force feeding of hinky stem...

I'm sad and missed CI-user members at AD

I agree. I have quit visiting often because I'm tired of being bashed over the head with stem cell stuff. I'm all for it when it gets here. Until then, I'm just really grateful to have my CI. Yes, I tried a bunch of high powered hearing aids, went back to the audiologist for adjustments so...

    CI Activation: initial impressions

CanadaDan, The metallic sound of voices will disappear - I worried about it for 3 weeks and by the 4th, it was gone. Everyone now sounds as I remember (I'm about 4 months post activation). I suggest 'practicing' with audio books. You can get these from your public library then also borrow...

Stem cell available in Kansas City

I recently had my 3 month post activation testing and my scores were as follows: Monosyllable 80 Hint - Quiet 98 Hint - Noise 91 My reverse slope hearing loss is now a flat line between 25-30db loss. I still have my residual hearing. I was implanted with custom Med-El due to...

    After CI surgery drainage (Common?)

I experienced what I considered an earache which they assured me was normal. After all, you've had something crammed in to your cochlea, there's bound to be some pain. The surgeon hadn't mentioned the earache beforehand.

Observation about Audiologists (and other medical professionals)

Even better is when they direct you to a PHONE and say 'Call the clinic and let them know you've checked in'... HELLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! See the form? It says "post cochlear implant follow up"... If I could use the phone I sure as heck wouldn't have a CI! DUH! As for any...

Forum Request for "Stem Cell Discussion"

Yes, I'm certain everyone is aware that stem cell therapy has potential for many uses including hearing loss. All the more reason for Stem Cell Therapy to have it's own category - those that are interested in the topic can post there much like those that are interested in assistive listening...

Forum Request for "Stem Cell Discussion"

I completely agree. It is very annoying that certain posters continually force feed us their beliefs regarding Stem Cells and have nothing positive about CI's. The CI forum should be for those interested in CI's and those that are interested in stem cell therapy need their own. There are...

Info on STEM CELLS from scientific source

just a side note about Costa Rica - US veterinarians are allowed to practice human medicine there so I'd be more than a little hesitant to have stem cell therapy there :) This is true as I have a friend that relocated from the US (licensed veterinarian here) and practices human med in Costa...

    argggghh!

I have always had hearing aid insurance to cover situations such as this. Perhaps when you get a new aid, you can investigate coverage. Sorry this happened to you - it's rough to be without!

CI users. Can you use the phone?

My implant was activated August 7th and while I haven't attempted the phone yet, I have been listening to talk radio and listening to audiobooks. I'm hearing about 70-80% of what is said BUT still having a problem committing what I hear to memory. Ron once you're implanted I suggest...

Transitioning from HA to CI... how do you know when you're ready to make the jump?

I was implanted on July 20th and have yet to be activated. However they were able to completely save my residual hearing so losing the residual hearing isn't a guarantee any more. I did talk to my surgeon about the stem cell research. The implant center has grant money lined up for stem...

    Post Surgery - CI questions

Thank you for your response. I'll use relay to call the surgeon this morning. I read your blog last night Charlotte and really enjoyed reading about your journey!

    Post Surgery - CI questions

Successfully implanted on Monday but have a few questions that hopefully fellow CI'er's can answer. 1 - How long will the 'squishy' noise in the implanted ear last? 2 - Even rolling over on to that side of the head produces squishy noises as if the ear canal is full of fluid - did anyone...

Don't You Hate it When People Assume That Since You Have H.A.'s You Hear Perfectly?

what's really frustrating is when your family thinks that! It's very discouraging - they know I have a 90db loss and still say smart @$$ things like "do you have your hearing aids in?" as if I could even hear enough of what they're saying without them in. GRRRRRRRRR so rude people aren't...

    Ear fatigue

Me too! Some days I simply can't wait to get out the door and in the car so that I can take my hearing aids off! It will be interesting to see if I experience as much 'fatigue' with the CI as I do with HA's.
