Staying in Boston for a week

Thanks for the tip on the Prudential Tower...I'm afraid of heights, but if I'm feeling brave, maybe I'll just do it!!! (I did the World Trade Center...kicking and screaming all the way!!!) :Ohno:

    "Kiss of Deaf"

Thanks for sharing that, Ocean!!! I sent the link for the article to all of my friends who have kids!!! Ya just never know! (I can remember doing that when I was a little kid because I thought it was funny to see people wince and say "ouch"----fortunately, I've grown out of that behavior!)

Is hearie more romantic than Ddeaf/Hhoh?

I have been married so long, I forget what dating looks like. However, I do believe that it isn't a "hearing thing" or a "Deaf thing"---it's how they are raised! If the parents treat each other and their children with love and respect and communicate well, then the children will do the same...

Ask me anything about life as an only deaf girl in a hearing school

Everyone has such interesting experiences. I know I'm considered a hearie and a minority here on AD, but I appreciate being able to read your posts and comments. Keep it up!

Ask me anything about life as an only deaf girl in a hearing school

Wow---Coolgirl, you play percussion? Ever hear of Evelyn Glennie? Irish deaf percussionist? She's pretty cool---world famous and what talent!!! Plays in her bare feet for obvious reasons.

Staying in Boston for a week

Thanks, Ocean! Maybe Tom Brady and I will run into each other; if so, I will definitely give him your S/N on AD!!! I'll be on the look out! I hope to bring back some good info from the conference, and I'm always willing to share :cool2:

Staying in Boston for a week

Thanks everyone!! Good information. I would love to get to see Salem, but I'll be in classes from 9-5 each day (and I won't have a car). I should be able to see some landmarks in the city, though. I especially appreciate the info on the subways after dark. Glad I opted for an afternoon...

Staying in Boston for a week

Anybody have any information about Boston that might be helpful? Safe city? I will be attending the summer symposium at NEU, flying in to Logan. I guess I just take the subway to the school. I never visited Boston before, so what are your thoughts?

    Bad News but survived!

Wow! I'm happy that you are safe. It's not unusual to have bad dreams and troubles after a traumatic event such as an accident. That's normal and understandable. But if you experience continuing anxiety, sleeplessness, or if you can't seem to get back to driving or normal life, I would...

    Accommodations and Modifications

Some that I've seen on IEPs (Individualized Education Plans): * Preferential seating for the student * Teacher needs to repeat questions or comments made by students (sometimes interpreter can't hear what a kid says, or if the student lipreads, they need to see it on the teacher's lips) *...

    What happened to me today!

I'll bet the doc doesn't PAY for Spanish interpreters---probably somebody he just knows or someone who works there who happens to speak a little Spanish. I'm surprised he didn't do what one doc did---get his neighbor who knows some sign to come to the office voluntarily and sign for a patient...

    What happened to me today!

They could put bouncers at the restaurant doors....? This could not possibly be a habit of all d/Deaf people; no one I know would ever do that. And don't some hearing people pull the same crap???? C'mon---it's an equal opportunity crime!!!!:h5:

    What happened to me today!

You could also send a letter to the editor of your local newspaper; maybe they would print it---that would burn their butts!!!!!

    Grammar among Deaf People

Not sure that I agree that ASL is not a language by virtue of it not having a written format; there are still languages (not merely dialects) that are only spoken, have no alphabet or writing system. I have to agree with the many posters who stress early parental involvement in the education...

    Please Help Me...

This is good information, as I have a cheap-o lousy cam right now which allows me no decent sign language communication at all (having V.P. at work has spoiled me, too!!!). I'm really glad I read these posts; now I know what to look for!!! Thanks!
