Middle and high school are all in one building (they live in a rural area). They will do the same. They said they will be getting her a note taker in the next year or so. She's in 1st grade and doesn't have strong reading skills yet. They are going to start writing her IEP as soon as they find...

I enjoy being with her. I have always been extremely close with her and her brother. They live about an hour away from me but the travel time is worth it to see them so happy. They play the best with my son too. We are all learning ASL right now. I start formal classes in March. Her school has...

My niece is going with me to my next ENT and audiologist exam to watch how its done and to see how they do the impressions for the ear molds. She is excited to get to see what happens and then when she goes to her audiologist, she wants me to come help her pick out her ha. She wants "pretty...

My niece is very shy and doesn't like any extra attention on her when at school. She may want to hide her hearing aids. I don't hide mine at all. On any given day you can plainly see my purple ha on either ear. I can't use the soft ear molds and my audiologist said that the company they work...

It really does Jillio. I saw her at a birthday party the other day and she was struggling to hear my nephew's train set make noise. I felt sad for a moment and then I told her its no big deal that we can't hear it. She said like music? I cant hear it unless its really loud but I can feel it and...

They did a basic hearing test in her pediatrician's office and that showed that she had no hearing in her left ear and not very much in her right ear. She has never shown any hearing problems in the past. My sister and I emailed the ENT back yesterday so that I could ask a few questions. He...

Thank you jillio, you have eased my fears. I guess I am one of the few who have had pain when they put in the tubes. My ears have always been very sensitive. The tympanograms actually cause me to squirm because I get a very mild pain from it. I also gag when they do the ear molds for my ha too...

I will stand by my sister and niece no matter what! I love them. I just want to make sure that this is absolutely needed. No other Dr. has ever said that she has any allergies and she has no history of infection. I had a history of chronic and near constant infection when I was young. The...

My niece is 6. Up until last week, we thought she was hearing. Only in the last couple months has my sister noticed that she isn't hearing very well. The doctor said she doesn't hear at all out of her left ear and her right ear isn't much better. They told my sister to take her to the ENT. The...

Audism - The Definition and the Audist View

Grendel many other CI centers and are against ASL on all levels. You happened to find one of the very rare places that are ok with any ASL use. Most places will tell you not to use ASL and to ONLY speak with the child, no hand signals or anything.

    Reintroduction and an Update!

I hope I can stick around more too. My niece will be getting tubes in her ears to help "settle" her allergies. I'm not too keen on this because the surgery traumatized me as a young child. The ENT says he doesn't feel it will improve her hearing but will improve the pressure against her ear...

    Reintroduction and an Update!

Hello again! Things have been crazy around the family so I haven't been on in a long while. I'm a single mom to a wonderful autistic little boy. I have been hoh since I was born. I have been wearing ha since my early 20's. Was given the option to go to the local deaf school but the Drs...

My Mission to create a better "Snug Fit" (For CI and HA).

Thanks Inmate23! I had no clue about that. I will talk to her next week and see what I can do about getting it!

    Oral skills = Auditory skills

I'm HOH but people "forget" I can't hear them. They call me from other rooms or from other floors in the house and get mad when I don't answer. My mother and son are getting better about it but the rest of the family believes my hearing aides will "miraculously" make me fully hearing again. I've...

My Mission to create a better "Snug Fit" (For CI and HA).

I'm interested in helping as well. I wear ha and they have fallen off before when I'm coaching. I was accidently kicked as an athlete was attempting to do a handstand and my ha landed in the foam pit. Believe me, its not easy to find a tiny ha in a large pit of foam blocks!

Why do they need a purse?

I personally can't stand to carry a purse. If it doesn't fit in my pockets or my dates pockets...I don't bring it. I carry my knife and peper spray on my belt.
