    *gasps* your parents reaction....

My mum was surprised as she hadn't noticed any problem with me when I was at home, before I started school. I'm an only child so there was probably a lot of one-to-one interaction between me and my parents. I had a nasty teacher at infant school who just thought I was ignoring her. I was 6 when...

    Refused audiogram printout- UK NHS

Hi everyone, I haven't been on here for a while, but I'm back :-) I went today to my drop-in clinic at the hospital to ask for a new mould and tubing as my mould has a chip that irritates my ear, and I accidentally cut my tubing too short. While I was there I asked for a printout...

I'm hoh and being lazy lately so I haven't worn my aids, I just take my purse and my phone, and door key, when I go anywhere.

When do you put on your aid(s)/implant(s)?

I haven't actually worn my hearing aids for a while as they need new tubes and I've not got around to getting them...when I do wear them, I put them on after getting dressed and doing my hair- if they're on first they then get caught in my hair/in the way of the my hair straighteners. I usually...

Are you guys sick of europe?

I eat pizza with my hands..and it's in slices. I don't like the policies of the European Union, or the political state of affairs in Britain at the moment, but physically I like where I live. We have lovely scenery in Devon and Cornwall, and I'd like to visit Scotland, Ireland, France etc. I...

Best Buy Optimization Is A Big Stupid Annoying Waste Of Money

We have similar things in this country- PC World (a shop) will do virus scans etc on your computer for a fee. They try to sell you insurance for things you are covered under household insurance, or consumer law, for. That story is awful, $40 and they don't finish the job properly! I use a Mac...

    How long do moulds last?

Ok, thanks everyone. Does anything happen to the material- will it change, or will I only know when I start getting squeaking/feedback?

    How long do moulds last?

I can't find the answer to this question anywhere. This is the first time I've had in the ear traditional moulds (ever, and I'm 24!), and I don't know how long they last. I know the tubing will get hard and crack when it needs replacing, but what happens to the moulds?

    Deaf culture - do's and don'ts, etc. Let's make a list!

-Don't start talking to me when I'm reading, without saying my name first to get my attention. This happened yesterday at my work placement- I couldn't start work til my email account had been set up so I was reading a booklet one of the girls gave me. All I heard was 'humph umble mumble blah...

The Lounge thread: Whatever you feel like......... Anything goes! Part XVI

I'm sorry to hear that Meg. Hugs, and happy birthday. Shel90, we don't have a system, sometimes the roads get gritted but mostly the country descends into chaos. Lissa, I'm jealous! We only have a few inches. You can make hot cocoa and marshmallows and watch films with the kids! I'm so tired...

Do you have an ethnic identity?

Mine would be ginger, female, English..not to offend anyone by not saying British but there are cultural differences and I think of Ireland, Wales and Scotland as having a lot of Celtic history which I don't feel I have. Having said that I do have some Scottish and Irish ancestors. The cliche...

    Want to Stop Talking

I couldn't go 10 minutes without talking! When I'm around people and can't interrupt or say anything (eg laryngitis) I feel so frustrated and un-noticed. I don't think anyone should have surgery to stop them talking.

    The Talking Deafie

I don't think I should answer really, cos I'm not deaf as such, but I communicate only by talking (or writing). I never had the opportunity to learn sign language. Sometimes it's easier if other people write things down, if it's a very noisy place.

Oticon Spirit Zest making random clicking noise..

Hi everyone, I've not been on AD for a while as I had problems with my password, but I've got it all sorted out now :-) I recently had my aids reprogrammed as I couldn't hear a thing with them, and I hear very well with them now. Now I just have a volume switch and no other 'modes'...

    What are you thinking about?

I'm thinking I'm a little bit tipsy after only a few sips of cava (I haven't drank since June!) and I'm looking forward to a lie-in in the morning.
