    What is the sign for....

Yeah, that's how I was taught. It's like "temper-tantrum" but it moves around, like you are shaking around on the floor.

    Falk Explosion In Milwaukee

Yeah, that was the big news Wednesday up here in Milwaukee. Thankfully, only 3 people died. Looking at the pictures, you'd expect it to be much worse than that. The corporation is doing a good thing, and continuing to pay the employees while they figure out how to rebuild.

    College degree?

That's the one. The great thing about being a non-medical science major: Grad schools pay you to learn. She'll most likely go to grad school for free, and actually get paid (albeit, she'll be working in a lab too) a few thousand bucks a year.

    College degree?

I have a Bachelor of Science in Biology, minors in Chemistry and History. I was just shy of graduating Summa Cum too....:( My wife has one year remaining, and she'll have a BS in Bio and Chem, then she's going to start a PhD program at Marquette.

    Is some deafness hereditary?

It can indeed be genetic. My wife has a form of genetic deafness (her mother and sister are/were also deaf), and she even did research into the different forms and biochemical causes of genetic deafness during her internship this past summer.

    Man dies in wood-chipper

Granted, the company itself is a seperate entity that could be sued seperately, but the man who died was the owner of the company. Barring any partnerships with several owners, I'd think it would be more monetarily beneficial for the wife of the dead owner to simply sell her inherited portion...

Stereotypes of the deaf and hard of hearing

I took a look at her license tonight, and it has a restriction on the back, stating she must have hearing aids or mirrors. She's telling me that restriction is optional.... Again, she wants the notation on there so she can quickly and easily prove she is deaf, should the need arise. I'm...

Stereotypes of the deaf and hard of hearing

It's not a sticker. On the back of her license it has a line clearly stating that she is hearing impared (though I don't recall the exact wording). It allows her prove, quickly and legally (since it is a gov't issued ID), that she is deaf.

Stereotypes of the deaf and hard of hearing

I'm not sure if such an indicator is required in Wisconsin or not, but Sharon is very glad she has the notation of her hearing loss on the back of her licence. This is because some cops don't believe people are deaf when they pull them over. How many news stories have we read about a deaf...

I need your help with school needs to provide deaf parents with interpreter...

Oh, the school actually does just about everything it can to discourage Disabled students from attending the school; it's really quite sad. The head of the admissions office told his workers to tell any prospective DA students that they would not be good enough to be accepted, even if they...

Stereotypes of the deaf and hard of hearing

A year and a half ago my fiancee flew to Germany with her sister. When her sister informed the flight attendant Sharon was deaf, the flight attendant went and got one of those airline emergency brochures in braille for her...

    Sorenson VRS

Indeed, my fiancee signed up early last week and got e-mailed today about setting up the installation or whatnot.

I need your help with school needs to provide deaf parents with interpreter...

It is indeed a private religious college. Admittedly, this is all fairly new to them, as my fiancee is the first deaf student the university has ever had. Still, the university has an officer whose duty it is every year to sign off that they are complying with ADA and the Rehabilitation Act of...

    Deaf and hearing couple!

I'm a hearie engaged to a deaf woman. Her mother is also deaf, while her father is hearing, and they've been married more than 25 years now. We love the ability to openly talk about the people around us without fear of them understanding. I'm quite surprized that we've only once randomly met...

I need your help with school needs to provide deaf parents with interpreter...

Indeed. I just had a bout with my former university when they initially refused to provide an interpreter for my fiancee at my sister's graduation. I wrote them a letter pointing out Section 504 and a few court cases that specify any university that gets federal funds through gov't loans to...

    Questions & it's Culture(s)..

Granted, my experience in the world of deaf teachers is all secondary (through my fiancee), but she took me to meet some of her gradeschool deaf teachers over last Christmas break, and every single one of them was hearing. I don't see it as a problem, but then, I am hearing. Some deaf may...

Stereotypes of the deaf and hard of hearing

Indeed, and had that driver been alert, as any opperator of a motor vehicle should be, he would have heard your mother's honking. Just because someone chooses to be destracted and not pay attention to his surroundings does not change the fact that the ability to hear does aid in safely...

Stereotypes of the deaf and hard of hearing

I actually asked my fiancee this back when we first met (she's deaf). But this stereotype does actually have logic behind it. In some areas (specifically the State of Missouri, where I am from) it is illegal to drive while one has on headphones (such as from a walkman or ipod). The reason...
