    Space Shuttle finally launching today

Airline pilots really shouldn't take off in storms either. Some hotdogs think that's a good idea, but planes have been hit with lightning or hail, or have taken on too much ice, and if it damages the wrong systems or weighs you down to where you don't have enough lift as the case may be, you...

I'm really not sure how they could look into the eyes of the people they were hurting and continue to think of them as property no different than livestock. Even a simple application of the Golden Rule should've shown them that's not how they would want to be treated. And there were...

    Gay AND Christian?

:topic: That's not how I regard the Fourth of July. Having a sense of our history doesn't mean dismissing God. :(

Bill Oreilly is Threating Mexico with a boycott.

I don't think such a suit could actually go to court; unless the arrest involves excessive use of force, I don't see how you can sue a country for enforcing laws that are on its books even if you don't like them.

    Gay AND Christian?

I don't usually read this forum because I can't personally relate--but when I saw the title of this thread I had to comment. I think one can be gay and be Christian. I'm not sure that it is a sin. But even if it is, let me put it this way: if I can be as temperamental towards other people...

    Women in Christianity

I have a very simple question. The Bible outlines how a slave and his master are to interact. Yet we have abolished slavery. If I follow your logic applied to THAT relationship, then it is of the devil for a slave to speak against a human master. Do you condone the idea of a human being...

It doesn't. But I think that by suggesting even a little mercy, the Bible could start to wake up that nagging feeling in the back of someone's mind that maybe the whole setup was wrong. Then add the New Testament verses that start to call for equality (the most radical statement being the one...

The Making of a Word: Audism ...And More

I don't know if the guy in question is an anomaly or no, but I have a friend who is blind, and who works at a company that makes assistive technology, and he describes it to me as being "for people with visual impairments" and he may have said "visually impaired" in another circumstance. In his...

Have Mormon people come to your door?

I got a laugh from that too--and the best part is you never had to SAY a mean word to them! :)

It just occurred to me that the speed at which this board moves contributes. Because there's not always time to sift through every response in one of these threads, people go for the most outrageous statements (and often seem to race each other in trying to respond).

Can someone who is severely deaf talk normally?

I think I just find it hard to get my head around that, in most circumstances; that's not the way I was brought up. I would be lying if I said I never make judgments based on how a person (of any kind) talks, but I wouldn't call it a terribly frequent response.

Why should deaf people be around hearing people instead of O N L Y deaf people

I think you're very correct about adults...that's why I was thinking any intervention has to be as a child. And even if a child doesn't have the opportunity to play with kids who are unlike them, a good parent should spend some time with them teaching them to have respect--and this because by...

Can someone who is severely deaf talk normally?

There IS proof that hearing people understand better when looking at someone...I can vouch for it, especially when I'm in a crowd. I don't understand why some people think speech is totally evil--or why anyone would think signing is evil. Bad teaching doesn't make the whole concept invalid...

I find it interesting that I provide a comment that DOESN'T take an exteme one way or the other and it gets ignored. What IS it about this board that polarizes people to such a degree???

Why should deaf people be around hearing people instead of O N L Y deaf people

I don't think total isolation of the two worls is good for ANYBODY...and I think that most importantly, deaf and hearing children should have the opportunity to play together, with responsible adults making sure that any violations of courtesy on either side are swiftly (but fairly) punished...

Operation removes lightbulb from man's rear

I just can't believe it wasn't broken! He's lucky they got that out safely...though I feel sorry for him, for being in a place that mistreats people that badly just for having a moonshine still!

The way I see the parts of the Bible that deal with the reality of slavery, it seems that it tries to provide ways to take the worst of the sting off of it--but then verses that outline major concepts like mercy and equality (Galatians states it pretty bluntly) sow the seeds for reform. As...

Why should deaf people be around hearing people instead of O N L Y deaf people

I think America in general has a tendency to generate extreme views on all sides and with other matters; as an American, this is just one part of a pattern that crosses all social boundaries.
