    Travelling/Backpacking alone and being deaf?

Do people who are deaf travel much by themselves or go backpacking? What was your experience like? I'm 23, born profoundly HoH/deaf and currently i'm in New Zealand and have been for the past month and a half travelling. This is the first time I've travelled this far by myself though I've...

It's easy to take advantage of deaf/hoh people

Hi, I'm profoundly hoh and I'd like to hear your responses about being advantage of. By this I mean when you're talking to hearing people you sometimes feel like you have to respond with 'okay' even when things might not be okay. This has resulted in problems with deadlines and doing tasks I...

    Deaf/HoH Jokes

Hi, As a person born with a profound hard of hearing/deafness I find it a nice conversation breaker to make a joke when you're talking to someone new about your hearing loss/deafness. I think it shows the person/friend that you're not sensitive about it. Also it's important I think to reflect...

    Deaf dating sites?

Hi, Are there any dating sites based for deaf/hard-of-hearing people? I saw a few comments suggesting Facebook groups was a place to meet people though it's mainly a much older crowd on those sites (40+) If there isn't, why isn't there? is that for a reason? Perhaps there's not enough...

Noticing the limitations with hearing impairment more as an adult?

Hi, This isn't meant to sound pessimistic though at the current age of 22 born with a profound hearing-loss, did anyone else begin to notice how their hearing-loss/deafness affects them when they reached an adult? For example as an adult I've become more aware and conscious now about how my...

    Beaten up for being Deaf!

The article could've explained it more clearly though it's about a different point from the article itself. The Disability campaign have condemned the Bedroom Tax separate from the people of this attack.

Several things I don't like what hearing people did

As a person with profound hearing loss and having been in very similar frustrating situations myself, my advice would be no matter how frustrating or cross you may feel about not hearing back from other people try not to take it personally. After years of daily isolated incidents of social...

    Good deaf dating sites?

I though if I possibly met someone who was also hard of hearing, perhaps it'd be nicer to be with someone who understood and knew from their experience of what it's also like being hard of hearing/deaf.

Empire Cinema loop system for HOH/Deaf people

Hi, I wasn't sure if others were aware about this though I found out that Empire Cinema have a loop system you can ask for when you get your tickets to see a film. I could hear so much more speech than to when I tried hearing it turned off. Thought it was really helpful though wasn't sure if...

Deaf folks: What is your occupation, and educational background?

Went to a public high school, ended up passing a BA Hons Degree in Animation this year! Unemployed currently, hopefully can find a job. I've heard not many deaf people get through University? It certainly was challenging itself doing a course whilst also having a profound hearing loss.
