Back in April I noted that AT&T will now be pro-rating their early termination fees. Just as a reminder: that new policy started yesterday. Instead of paying the previous $175 penalty no matter when you cancel, new and renewing AT&T customers will now see that $175 total reduced by $5 for every month they're under contract. Sprint, AT&T and Verizon all changed their plans after facing massive ($1 billion, in Verizon's case) lawsuits for misleading customers. The carriers are currently trying to wiggle out of those suits by lobbying the FCC.

3G EVDO is more coverage than AT&T 3G HSDPA

There is no such thing as "3g EVDO" It's actually called EVDO, period. HSPDA is also called 3G. They are both different wireless technology. EVDO is not international while HSPDA is part of GSM technology.

Correct!

Most of my friends switch from T-mobile to Verizon and Sprint due coverage since they moved from RIT to here. Most of them said coverage is very important than price for their job like me.

Yup, I had very good reason about switch to att and very happy with that.

Third Generation technology is 3G

Actually, both EVDO and HSPDA are 3G (3rd Gen).. EVDO is not limited to USA, there are EVDO service in Canada and other part of world. EVDO use uses CDMA spectrum. GSM is just more common internationally.

EVDO and HSPA are 3G.

yea. they said ~72% of world have GSM. it should be interested next few years which WiMAX and LTE the world will use. from my research, more and more wireless carriers in world will use LTE.

yea that is correct, but at&t is getting there. it will cover 3G in 350 mkts at end of 2008. however att is upgrading hsupa on 275 mkts this month. it should be interested to see how fast it ll go on speed test. it will upgrade the rest(75mkts) at end of 2008. in 2009, it will upgrade HSPA to 20mbps.

Yeah, If so, EVDO is more coverage than ATT HSDPA. then Can you explain me why att wireless subscribes are on top more than Verizon subscribes?

It all about coverage footprint.. For example, ALLTEL has the largest footprint coverage than any of these carriers in US. You can find that in FCC filings. Most of these ATT subscribers are in major cities. Verzion, Sprint and ALLTEL covers major cities and rural.

I am sure that ATT having agreement on iPhone helped them obtain more subscribers.

Being biggest is not always great.. I can tell you this from my experience as working for ALLTEL network operations. If you grow too fast, you end up having problem with capacity. Most carriers build about 10-15 new tower sites per year for each market.. Maybe more for Tmobile/ATT due to their spectrum, their 1900mhz spectrum only cover much shorter distance than 800mhz spectrum - meaning Sprint/Verzion/ALLTEL only need fewer sites to cover more footprint.

I remember about 8 years ago, when many carriers started offering UNLIMITED voice plans when digital network is young age, our networking got so overloaded, we had to stop offering unlimited plan until we could add more hardware to support sharp increase of growth. Too much subscribers on limited capacity can cause delayed text messaging, delayed voice mail notification, and possibly missed incoming calls. Sometime you cant make calls at all.

well, verizon and att have h u g e contracts with us govt agencies and big coorporates. both are hot competive to eachother.

i guess the subscribers like att's plans with rollover minutes. also they can use international plans that they can travel with the mobiles around the world. they can use data/voice at same times.

ppl say that GSM network is very expensive than EVDO network so that is the reason att is trying to catch up. needless to say, att has better EDGE coverages in rural areas in USA.

but hey look at verizon is going to switch the network to GSM network next few year so alltel is following as well.

I don't think that is correct - ALLTEL have no plan to move to GSM.. I am wondering where you heard that from.
