ok Technically speaking, LTE is a modulation technique that is the latest variation of GSM.

Alltel Follows AT&T And Verizon, Chooses LTE For 4G - Mobile Blog - InformationWeek

Cool. I dont much about LTE except that we would go that path. I know that EVDO is using a little differently at RF level than Voice/1X data but its quite possible that LTE may be using completely different than CDMA. But I can tell you this, CDMA for voice is not going away anytime soon. We just spend millions converting from GSM to CDMA network that we brought out other carriers few years back.

But again I could be wrong as technology changes so often in short period of time that I have hard time catching up - corporation don't tell us everything until LAST minutes! I know ALLTEL is spending MILLIONS to get EVDO upgraded to Rev A last year and this year. LTE coming up in few years, I can't imagine how carriers can get their return on investments from never ending upgrades!!

yup, i cant image how much these wireless carriers spending $$$$ on the network stuffs ! but in my opinion, they are smart to move to LTE because more countries in the world use GSM netowrks so the subscribers can use mobiles in other countries, ya know.
