To those who wear HA while riding motorcycle/moped/etc. - I have a question. I'm getting a motorcycle license in a couple months. I wear HA and I'm curious about wearing helmet. I want to get full-face or flip-up helmet. Is there a helmet designed to be worn for person with HA? Please link/pix your helmet if you can.

Well, if your State CA (allows it) allows and you don't mind, just get a half helmet so you can wear your hearing aid. I have both the full and half helmet. With the full one, I cannot wear my hearing aid. Basically, those are your choices, I think.

Why don't you ask your local motorcycle dealer?

there's no local motorcycle dealership around here within 30 min radius. After all.... I live in a place where hummer or chevy tahoe is a fad for soccer mom.

dealer local always rip off. :slap:
I didn't say to ask a dealer and buy it from them.

You can always ask a dealer for more detailed information like if there's a specific name for them or recommended models. That way, you know what to look for elsewhere or online.

I've done that with various products in the past. I'll have a hard time figuring out what the actual name for something is. So, I go to a store that's known for selling similar products and ask them what it's called. When they tell me, then I can go to other stores and say, "I'm looking for this... do you have (insert product name)?" Now, I can compare prices. I could even look it up online now that I know what it's called. :)

always, whatever you do , TRY THEM ON !!! all of them
but always be sensible about which helmet you can afford amd especially if you planning to wear your CI/HA try them with those ON !! and switched on...
i liked Shoei helmets

i ride my motorcycle (you can see my avatar)...

i wear Scorpion helmet (full face) and other one is Nolan (flip up)

you can check it out at www.helmetshop.com (thats where i ordered from)

As long your helmet requires DOT on back of the helmet.

IN a case as you wondering what is my motorcycle.
Its Yamaha Raven 05' R6 with 600cc. I love my own baby.

yea I see helmets online and I know some of AD'ers are motorcyclists. I want to hear from them about wearing helmet w/ HA. That is very important for me. I know most helmets are not designed to accommodate a person w/ HA so I was hoping to hear from some of you who have a helmet comfortable enough for person with HA.

I'm talking about contacting someone from a dealer. Try the Harley Davidson website?

NorCal, awesome, a quick yamaha 600, u ever had a chance to ride a fast two stroke?
quite an experience those things can give ya..... i like four strokes too... shit these day you can practically get a 300K plus bike for a price of a decent family sedan, increidble
no, i dont have a bike at the moment , prolly not for a while

well I'm not sure why would u want to wear HA if u're wearing helmet?.. u wont be hearing anything xcept hearing the whistiling noise made from HA?..
I used to have sumoy helmet and it does have a space on my ear that's big enought for dumbo ears.. so u might want to try'em out.. but the price is heafty...

right now I'm using shoei and it's very comforable. I take CI off put it in my pocket before I ride.. there's no telling what will happen if I ever crash with CI under the helmet.. I bet it'll hurt!!! (knock on wood)

Just sayin'

They do sell Motorcycle Helmet in Walmart too.

I wore helmet when I rode moped back then. It was a full headed helmet. What I did was to removed the "ear cushion" which goes around the ear. I can simply rip it out and put helmet on (This require a little stretching while pulling helmet into head without touching HA). It fits nicely w/ HA. Or you can cut bottom of "donut" cushion to make it look like upside down "U" shape so You can slide in easily w/ HA.

I have seen ripped out or missing ear cushions in helmet at Walmart that was on "reduced priced" shelf. I bet some hearing people had same issue with the helmet that they have "dumbo" ears.

More expensive helmet may have better design that fits you nicely or configurable to fit for your comfort. My Uncle had a nice red helmet with vents to keep his head cool while riding. He said it is very expensive.

I don't have pics that you requested. I DO have 1/2 helmet that belongs to my friend who own 74 Harley in my garage. I didn't have problem putting it on w/ my CI. I prefer full head helmet for face/chin protection.

Ok guys ... this man is going to be a new rider, so we need to encourage him to wear full gear.

WEAR FULL GEAR MY FRIEND :cool2:

I also wear a full face helmet and often my HA bugs the dang hell out of me so I take it off then put helmet on. But, its possible to wear it - turn volume down so no "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEeeee"

A full face helmet will also prevent flying debris from hitting you in the face as you travel 80 mph down a highway.

Get a leather jacket and tough durable PANTS - if you drop bike and slide with shorts, flip flops and t shirt, you will have road rash scars for life.

FULL GEAR ..... I cannot stress that enough.

Do you know why new riders are called "Squids"?

Because that is what they look like after a motorcycle accident ... I will not describe it - its gross.

don't mean to scare you ... its just a word of caution.

Catty mentioned the Bell helmets they sell at Wal-mart - they are nice.

You might also try looking on Craigslist for helmets for sale too.

LOL HA in helmet do feedbacks but not CI.

I totally agree with you about full head helmet.

Because if you are riding in highway at 70mph. If anyone wear 1/2 helmet or just none (wearing leather "harley" skullcap), I wish them a reall reaalllyy goood luck with them and pray for their survival. They'll get splat by bugs and have goo all over their face. Hit by birds flyby them. They will have broken cheek or chin by kicked or dropped rocks or objects on road bouncing to cyclist direction.

One story on other blog "Sportster blog" that a guy who wore 1/2 helmet and he got splat by big grasshopper and it hurts like dicken. It's goo got into his nose, eye and all over the cheek. He pulled over and nursing his face in pain. He had broken chin by rock fell from the truck. He advise EVERY riders to wear FULL helmet for protection. He doesn't want anyone experiencing same what he had.

Hope riders listening.

thanks guys! Good idea about cutting some cushions around ear area. I want to wear HA while wearing helmet because I will be mostly riding it on local road so yea - I need to be aware of my surrounding auditory. I don't want to ride it on highway in here.... way too many careless drivers with huge SUVS - yapping away on cell phones. I prefer wearing full-face helmet for safety reason. I guess I'll try Wal-Mart although it's about 30 min away.
