A woman said her son found his license plate missing so he called the police to file a report. They told him people were stealing the plates to get free gas. Given the rise in gas prices, people have taken to stealing license plates, putting them on a their car (same make and model), then getting gas and running. The gas station will have "your" license plate # and you could be in trouble for "pump and run." Check your car periodically to be sure you still have a plate. If you should find it missing, file a report immediately!!! Keep an eye on your license plate! Make sure you always know it's there! When the license plate is reported as the "drive off vehicle," it's YOU they contact! Be aware!!!! Be aware of your license plates, most of us never look to see if the plates are there or not. :rl:

Pass this on to everyone you know (Even if they don't have a car) They can pass it on to their friends with cars!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Geez...these gas prices are causing hovoac in different ways!

Yeah thieves are finding every way they can to bypass anything. Drill gas tank, cut off fill up tube, even use your license plate so they can bust you not them.

Gas price making people pissed off and try to steal more and more. It's crazy out there now.

Just like gold 14K steal them!

Glad to know that. People are getting desperate.

and lot of reports of copper are missing here in Arkansas too especially at construction site. Apparently copper are rolling in money! jeez. that sucks..

Gold, copper, metals all are worth money right now...

Wouldn't it be easier if they didn't have any plates on at all rather than stolen plates?

I think that all gas stations are supposed to change the policy, it require to pay at cashier before start gas in car.

It is already in places in many places now as most places require you to pre-pay before you get some gas.

But at wal-mart where i usually go shopping at doesnt require you to pre-pay. It did at first but they changed. I was like yikes why change mind? it was then I found out they put in camera to tape plate but good point what if the plate was stolen and not yours? jeez this sucks.

I think walmart need to change this AGAIN and go back to pre-pay to prevent more heartaches and trouble for innocent people??

Yup, gotta agree, I'm really HATE when see to get innocent people in big trouble.

I usually fill up at Shell.

This is probably a very old method used by any criminal using any form of "get-away" cars.

Even bank robbers do the same. :)

My friend had her license plate stolen, and she reported it to the police. She had to pay $70 to get a new plate..:( Maybe filing or filling the screw with liquid nails will make it harder for thieves to take off the plates.

Yeah, I thought so. Because no gas stations I have know that allow to pump before pay.
