Criminalizing Homelessness

It is very hard for the homeless people who are down in their luck, lost their jobs or having mental illness which the hospital dump them out on the streets for no reason. My hearing sister who lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico, U. S. A. is a director for the homeless shelter and try her best to help the homeless people in shelter. It can be a handle trying to make peace with them and working out the solution for them to find a place to live and go looking for a job, plus children trying to stay with parents instead of foster care. There are a lot of homeless people all over the world and it is a shame that the government are not helping them with the cost of living soooo high. It is not fair for a 22 year old man to be arrest for helping out feeding the homeless people even if there were thirty of them. I don't like that at all. :pissed: :nono:

May be if the politicians in this country focused on the people in our country and took care of our people we wouldn't have come to this problem!! That's my two cents.

Or maybe we should concentrate/put pressure on our legislators. By way of a funny, I hear there's not going to be a Nativity scene in DC this year because the Supreme Court has declared there's no three wise men and a virgin to be found in DC.
However, there's been no problem finding enough asses to fill the stable

Bear - again you write a great post. Homeless need help and police shouldn't arrest people helping homeless. Why arrest for helping? I can't understand the reason. If homeless need stranger's food the city of Orlando isn't helping enough for them. Orlando should be grateful for stranger's help and then find the official way to help. If Orlando doesn't want people feeding homeless in a park then feed the homeless in official shelter. Don't arrest a kind person for helping.

:ty: for important post, RLF

For your information, there are about half amount I have meet homeless or people who I knew have told me, these homeless refuse to take from us nor need help. They have their own reason why to not accept.

However, I find some source with people's words.

• Feed homeless in public on certain area cause the habit to be appear in location make look bad
• It encourage homeless not use public shelter, instead look for free food from strange
• With permit that allow city know the volunteer carry the free-disease meal to homeless.
• With homeless around, it make unattract toward tourist.
• Neighbor may not felt safe or comfortable nearly or in their properly area.

PowerON, You got a point there. Notes taken and I have to agree with you about that. I understand the situation of why it is against the law or rule to feed the homeless. That make sense to me.

ta-da!

Friends! My fellow comrades! don't blame the government for its lack of empathy and heartlessness. It's YOU AMERICAN CITIZENS (and other people) who did not actively take action to remedy this issue. I am ashamed of myself too  Remember - we, the citizens, are the one who voted our government. We have the power to guide U.S. actions/policies toward anything. Since most of us don't bother with politics, who determines the national interests of a disinterested nation? The many can't, so it is left to the few (rich bastards). That's how you get this outlandish law like fining the homeless people and arresting them.

We need to actively inform our Congressman/Assemblyman/Councilman/Senator/etc. about this issue and do more! raise awareness! vote!

All I've done so far is donate tons of clothes and food to them.... but it's such a small pea of my effort...... I justify my pitiful action by working hard to get into government job so I can be in position to help others.

I think we all can agree that the best remedy to most problems in USA is to raise minimum wage!!! It's long overdue!!!!!!

That reminds me... You can get fined/arrested for feeding pigeons. They shit all over and leave unsightly mess. :fart:

Cities protect themselves from food poisoning lawsuit....anything that happens on public property is thier liability.....a permit is easy...they ain't denying the person a permit...they just insist he follow the rules....Arcata CA does the same thing. 30 people start eating food ya need a toilet or they shyt anywhere...and I mean anywhere with an attitude.

the homeless start squatting with an attitude too....free handing out attracts them and the never leave. Find a reasonable place to do it....

Restaurants should create liability waiver forms for those volunteers to sign.

Homeless people are already sick and full of diseases since they don't have the luxury of caring for themselves and keeping themselves clean like the rest of us do.

With those liability waiver forms, volunteers can sign them acknowledging that they will be responsible for the food that's being passed on to the homeless.

That way, restaurants have less to worry of lawsuits for something that volunteers might have done themselves.

Excellent idea.

another really good thread......bump again
Why bump it 2 hours later? :(

Anyways, a lot of clubs and organizations on campus at RIT are not allowed to bring leftover foods to the homeless. I'm not talking about food we already ate. I'm talking about food that was provided at a reception or public event where there's a lot of food left.

The homeless ppl are sometimes part of the problem. They don't always want help. Food and work is better than straight out money.

People are only a castrophe from being homeless. Sh*t happens. Lucky for my guy that we were dating when his landlord was forced to evict him and the other couple from his two apartments. Someone squealed to to the county about illegal apts in that house. So I let him move in with me.
