Never ever declaw a cat...

Excuse me? Please don't add words to my post when I never 'used' the word: 'convenience'. Tsk tsk.
~RR
You didn't have to (use that word). It's obvious that a human would never amputate any body part for convenience. It's done as a last resort to save life!

And declawing cat's paws have no any other reason or use than owner's convenience.

Aders--- This is getting old about declawing and clawing. I know there are Pro and Con, Legal and Illegal, and not ban or ban. I really appreciate Liebling put very positive about declawing and clawing. She totally respect people about declaw and claw cat. One thing I DO NOT APPERCIATE AUDIOFUZZY for being so rude and accused us about bad parents, use other term to explain picture but there is no point, being judgmental against us about declaw-- We all totally respect people about declaw and claw but we take good care of cat is what the most important matter. Like I said, what most important about being a cat owner is good parent with cat by feeding, provide a place, medication, make sure it is in good shape. I had been watching Liebling and I noticed she was not being judgmental but giving her truth opinion by her experience and her belief.

Well----- Today at my work when I was on call to go to Clinic. The owner bought the cat in that she adopted cat from shelter. I was so surprise to see cat with one nail swollen. Doctor Cow took xray. (let me tell you, handle the cat on x-ray is NO FUN!) Doctor discovered that cat's nail was broken apart from paw and is dead. She used something to get nail out of paw while cat (Blue) was not sedated. We both were so surprise that the nail came out of paw was so easy just like piece of cake. The nail has vessel which is full of blue and black. Doctor took blood and run the test. We found that cat is postive FEL. (postive for feline like AIDS) Blue's body just fell apart and is only 4 years old. We had to put her to sleep and I talked to doctor about declaw in her belief. She showed me blue's paw and said that most vet used painless shot into the paws and get full of nail but not the bones. She don't use black machine like in website which provide by Liebling is gross. She used laser to stop the nail growing. This is the new way to declaw the nail instead of cut the bone off. Doctor said that school taught her to cut only nails and burn the growth part is the best way and less pain. She said there are a lot of debating about declaw and claw. But what is most important is that cat is in good care of family.

That is what I am saying. Taking good care of cats are more important than just focus on claw and declawing.

BTW, The shelter was being on house-arrest due of overcrowding felines and dogs. Most of cats were starve to death and dogs ate some of kitten for dinner. LHPD arrested 8 people and took cats to our clinic to observe and I took the dogs to zoo program for the dogs to spend the night at zoo until Monday. (sigh)

My opinion is declawing is inhumane, an animal abuse, and barbarian practice and pple who declaw their pets are abusing the animal. Period.

:ty: for your nice compliment and know my posts for not judge, insult and bash the pet owners here for declaw their cats but show my respect on them and expressed my feeling and POV and also positive information how to take care of cats. I find sad that I am being accussed by some posters for judge their posts because I thought my posts, I made is positive information and education. Yes, I accept that it´s people´s decision what they can do with their pets and children.

Interesting, it remind me of Kim who broke their few claws after defend from dog attack... It bleed... The vet remove few of her claws... It grow again itself. Kim take care of her claws herself...

Yes, Sussi & Kim bite their claws to rid of their "old" claws and let it grow again... I was like wow when I found their few claws on the floor and keep some of their claws... like what I cut my nail or let my nail broke...

Laser to prevent from claw growing instead of cut the bone off ? Interesting... I learn about laser for a first time is here... I cannot say anything about laser yet but I prefer to leave cats´s claw alone because it´s their natural.

Yes, it´s true... It´s mainly important to take loving care of the pets. Your description about dogs to eat some of kitten for dinner make me :barf:

Why do so many threads end like:

fight_cartoon.jpg

I think everyone loves cats with passion and care. Yes, we disagree about declawing. Information is available on positive and negative. No one is changing opinion so fighting does nothing.

Maybe we should declaw people and give the internet to cats.

Yes, I do not wish to make the war but express my own feeling what I thought about declaw and disagree with declaw issues but I show my respect on the pet owners instead of insult/judge them. I tried to make positive posts with information which is good education for everyone. I see nothing wrong to agree to disagree in polite way like what we did at some debated threads.

yes it is sad, it also dogs too and other pets. Lot of pet owners don't take care of their pets or don't want to be responbile to take care of a pet. If people adpot or buy a pet and decide not want them anymore, then they got no business caring for a pet if they don't want to take serious responbilities to them. Animals and pets are just like childrens that needs love, attention and caring and they look up to use to protect them. It's crying shame really. I adpoted both my dogs from bad owners and offer to take care of them to have a better life and I have no regret raising them as my babies. So people who dumped pets in shelters are idiots and they are the one cruel and heartless and the animals are the one get to suffer.

Yes, it´s very sad... It break my heart... That´s why I prefer to adopt them from shelters, homeless or families who don´t want to keep them than buy expensive pets from the breeders.

Same here. I would prefer to adopt dogs from the Animal Shelter. :)

Exactly, it´s same thing with claws. :)
Then we agree that claws won't always save a cat's life. :)

Is it forbid to compare the form of amupation on human and animal?
It's not "forbidden"; it just isn't logical.

Do we compare neutering animals without their permission with sterilizing humans without their permission? Do we compare selling animals with selling humans?

Fingertips certainly don't save anyone from road accidents. So? I thought we were discussing cat claws.

Exactly my thoughts too...
i didnt understand her statement either as it
didnt make any sense...:dunno:
This whole thread is getting sooo confusing....
:ugh3:

BTW- Doctor Cow has 2 cats. One of them is declaw and is doing good so far. Does that make Doctor Cow bad doctor? She didn't declaw the cat at all. She took cat from other family to take good care of it.

Awww, Gus, the pug is sooo cute!
My son has a pug they have recently adopted!
Their old dog, Jessie had died so they adopted this
pug...I think they named him, Oscar!..I saw a pic
of him and he is soooo cute! I will meet him on
Nov 14th when i fly to Oklahoma for a visit..hehe...

Declawing a cat is animal cruelty and should be banned.

Declawed cats tend to walk abnormally back on their heels rather than on their entire pads because of the chronic pain at the end of their severed fingers and toes. They often develop chronic arthritis and as the front toe pads shrink, chronic bone infections are common. So many cats find it painful to use the litter box, develop a conditioned aversion to using the box, and become un-housebroken. This is why many declawed cats are put up for adoption or are euthanized. They may also bite more, and become defensive when handled because their paws are hurting and infected.

Declawing (Onychectomy) of Cats

If you are worried about your furniture - DON'T get a cat.

Fuzzy

I am very passed on this thread, but I LOVE your last quote!

Yeah I would NEVER declaw my cat, even though she is very bitch and would attack anyone who pissed her off with her claws, ruining some of my furnitures with her claws, etc. Many of my friends have been suggesting me to declaw my cat, and I told them "No because I think it is very disrespectfully to cat's nature". I believe the claws is very important for cat's pleasure, to strenching their body (HEALTHY!), to catch the mouse or any small animals for their foods (HEALTHY!), to pull things while the cat feel so much organism (HEALTHY!), to itching their own body (HEALTHY!)there is many things so important for cat to have the claws.

Claws is cat's guide to their own comfortable!

I believe people who declawing the cat are treating the cat like their stuffed toy animals who can't defend themselves, can't itching themselves, can't strench themselves, can't predatoring other animals, etc etc!! :pissed:

Then we agree that claws won't always save a cat's life. :)

It´s same with human and animal as well... The fingertips and claws WON´T always save human´s and animal´s life. :)

It's not "forbidden"; it just isn't logical.

Yes it´s pretty logical to compare because human and animal have bones.

Do we compare neutering animals without their permission with sterilizing humans without their permission? Do we compare selling animals with selling humans?

 Your post make no sense to me...

For your information, I don´t sell human and animal to anyone for money but give human up for an adoption for reasons and give animal to new home for reasons is my belief.

The vet don´t have any sex protection for animals. Should I allow animals to breed more babies and then let babies to kill by someone else? Please use your common sense.

Yes: "nothing wrong to agree to disagree in polite way" and "positive posts with information which is good education for everyone". Maybe in the whole history fighting on the internet changed ONE person's mind. No, probably not.

OMG! I think the thread killed this kitten!

We all know what your opinion is about but you really don't need to use those harsh word to insult us all like that. This is uncall! You know what. What going around will go back to you. So be that what you want to be by using harsh language against us. Gee

Haha! You just post the picture of a cat that look like exactly like my cat, but just more older! :)

I am very happy to own my cat that still have the claws. The claws are very important for her, if she have no claws, she will never know what she want and never know what she want from the life. Hunting the mouse, attack people with her claws, strenching her body with the claws, all of those are her favorite. I have been noticing most cat with claws are far more smarter than the declawed cats because cats with claws always know what to do and know their own nature, wasn't I right?

You are right base on cat's nature-but for declaw cat IMO- and what I had been observed is that all cat have different personality and their character are different. One time, I never forget the cat with declaw came in with heavy heartworm. We were puzzled because the cat is indoor cat. We learned that the owner lived in country and the cat ate a lot of mouse that carried a lot of parasite in it. So we gave pretty a lot of shot that kill heartworm. Today, I know that cat is still alive and hunting around in the house to pick mice. Yike!

Yupp the heartworms cause the problems.. My parents gave the shots to my cat long time ago, and my cat is doing fine, living alone with me now :)

No, Reba started it, not me.

Look at her post...

Her post make no sense because EVERYONE knows that none of claws can protect animals from being run over by a car, that´s why I copied her post to question back to her over human fingertips because her post make no sense..

The links, we provided support our POV is not a confusing. Who misinterpret the posts is then confusing which is not right.

Oh, bop my head! sorry, hun! my bad, i thought it was you
started it...sorry.
Ok, i understand, yeah, you are right, claws wont protect cats from
being run over by cars, but will protect them from other animals. They
can run up the trees to get away from mean dogs, lol!
Again, my apologies....
