I don't know what to think about this picture like I said I'm in the middle of "it's wrong" and "it's harmless" We just don't know the state of mind based on a drawing of a gun made by the kid. What the kid thinking while drawing that picture, that's my point. ;)

Yes, I have no problem when we have different view on this... What forum for... :D It's good education for us...
 
School shootings are serious problem in USA, plus policies are getting more strict to keep children safe from school shootings, it does included with college students too because of VA Tech. I'm middle on it, this drawing looks harmless because he don't draw other person on side, if he do then it would be offensive to other person.

I had used to draw about knives and sword (Zelda) when I was at middle school and never got in trouble.

Yes, school shootings was happened twice in Germany as well. Government are stricter about volience on DVD and computer games... that's why we have many banned or restriction on DVD, computer games that the children can't buy without parental's supersivon accord German law but drawing that harmless gun?

Alan, my youngest son draw the gun and sword... just harmless artist... not aggressive way....

In no states are Americans currently allowed to carry guns into schools (including colleges), churches, banks, airports, hospitals or government buildings. We are also not allowed to carry guns into businesses or homes where the owner says, "no guns". Even with a conceal carry permit, Americans can't strut down the street with visible firearms (that's why they're called "concealed" weapons permits). In rural and hunting areas, it's OK to carry guns in the open without a permit.

Of course, this is just general description, and there are exceptions.

I agree with you 100%. No matter what the circumstances, I jsut don't see how suspension could benefit this student or his classmates.
 
On the subject of school shootings, which has led tothis paranoia regarding things like drawings, etc. For every perpetrator of a school shooting, it has come to light that there was a lot going on that had never been addressed. For instance, it waws shown that the kids that did the Columbine shooting had been bullied and picked on for an extendedperiod of time,a nd the school did nothing to correct that. They allowed the bullying to continue. Had they intervened appropriately to stop the bullying from other students, they could very well have prevented such a tragedy from happening. Int he Virginia Tech shootings, there was much evidence that this individual was having serious mental health problems, and nothing was done to intervene and get the proper assistance for this student. Had they intervened with this student and gotten himthe help he needed they not only could have prevented his death but the death of all the other students as well. And, if this students drawing was evidence of a more serious problem, it needed to be dealt with by getting this student the help he needs and not simply suspending him. Likewise, parents need to be aware of behaviors that could indicate a more serious problem. It seems like we jsut let problems such as bullying escalate, and then when someone goes over the edge, the school says "What happened?" What happened was they did not deal with the real problem and it created much bigger and more tragic problems.

AQnd I think parents have a right to be scared. Those we trust to protect and help our children are not fulfilling their obligations.
