One of the members offered to sell me the dvd and I asked that member if it was recorded off by tv. the member acknowledged that he did it and I told him its called piracy and its against the law. I wouldnt want to buy something that was copied as it may not show all nor the credits from the tv industry. It is sad that industry lost their profits as someone is selling this right here in AD. Where is their fair of profits? they got nothing...

Anyone know what Piracy is?? Here is what it mean.

piracy (n.) The unauthorized use or reproduction of copyrighted or patented material: software piracy.

WHAT IS PIRACY?

yeah i knew it was common on the street selling music, movie dvds, etc.. but didnt expect that someone would offer to sell me one right here in AD?

Yes, this is a pathetic society. Its hard to trust anybody because of all the frauds, theifs, and liars. You should turn in to police Gin.

Good thing that you didn't buy it, if you buy it then you are in trouble..

It's everywhere. People are always downloading music, movies, softwares off the internet.

My Aunt buy them all the time...

She offered me to watch them, but I said no... cause it doesn't
have closed caption or subtitled.

Maybe I'm a bit more out of sync with the politics here... It was wrong of them to offer to SELL it to you... making money off someones product is wrong... but when it comes to corporations such as microsoft and big name movies and artists, I don't see much wrong with the downloading of the warez... Maybe it will help keep people from having too much money...

my 50 years old cousin in California goes to movie every Saturday...
and pay to watch one movie... and then after that movie goes off...
she sneaks in another theatre room and watch movie in there...
and after that, she sneaks in other theatre room and watch movie
in there....

Many people do it.... even my mom does it..... My sister too.

I glad I live in suburia there are none on the street store for selling a piracy. I always buy
from authorized store for movie and video games, so I don't worry about real DVD and video game.
I prefer authentic movies and video game. I am anti-piracy, because piracy that make to me doesn't feel right.

You are crazy!

One time, I went to wrong room of movie of Pirates of the Carribean without captioning RWC, that is accident, not so troubled. So I switched to the other room with RWC captioning for this movie.
That make me confusing with same time. Weird.
So, I feel better with captioning.

To begin with deafilmedia, that isn't real piracy... thats just sneaking into a movie theater. no harm, no foul. Piracy is when you don't pay for any of it. Your mother and brother pay for at least the one ticket and more then likely buy snacks and sodas which is where the movie theaters make all their money.

Yeah, I prefer a nice cover copyright picture box with a DVD with the picture on the disc, make me feel like I am a real collector than just stealing them on the blank discs ;) I felt the same way as you do.

Exactly. It's not piracy but just sneaking around.

I know what piracy is...

My point is... people will do anything to get cheap movies or won't pay at all.

But I never sell or buy movies that are illegally copy.

People do piracy because people are scare
to waste money on STUPID FILM or film that
just ain't worth paying for.

Is that piracy when you rent an DVD at Blockbuster and invite your friends to pay part of it like $1.00? Is that piracy when you order an WWE PPV Event and invite your friends to pay part of it?

No. It's only piracy if you were to duplicate a copy of the movie, music, software and give it to somebody. However, you are perfectly entitled to making a copy of your DVD, CD, software, etc as the back-up. Despite what the corporations may try to tell you, it is not illegal to make back-up copies for yourself. It's just illegal to sell or upload it to the internet for everybody to download.

It doesn't appear that you do. From my POV, you seem to believe that piracy is limited to movies while in reality it applies to every copyrighted piece of material, including that new Harry Potter book y'all downloaded the week before it was released (Ok, maybe that was just me...)

Banjo, I relize you live in Canada but for everyone in the States, the evils that be (MPAA and RIAA (Did you here about the one where the RIAA sued a dead guy's family because no ruling was made while he was alive??)) its 'illegal'(by that I mean you won't go to jail (Unless you're a cammer or leak a pre-air movie/Tv show/CD) but you could be sued) here in the states. (I think I used to many perenthesis :giggle:)

I'm familiar with the MPAA and RIAA, it's pretty much "illegal" according to these bigwigs at the MPAA and RIAA. CIAA is pretty bad too, it's the Canadian version of RIAA. In fact, they got the government to impose a levy on blank CDs to "compensate" for the losses from piracy. The CD levy isn't applied to the blank DVDs from what I know.

The real irony is that the RIAA is always screwing the music artists over and over when it come to royalties and fees. In fact, a lot of independent musicians are unable to sell their CDs on eBay because of RIAA. Yep, you read that right.
