Woman Must Forfeit All Lottery Winnings

WHITE CITY, Ore. -- A local woman must turn over her lottery winnings after a judge said she won them illegally.

Prosecutors said Christina Goodenow, of White City, used a credit card that belonged to her then-boyfriend's dead mother to buy a winning $1 million Scratch-It ticket in Oct. 2005.

Goodenow asked lottery officials to keep her win quiet, claiming to be a victim of domestic violence. But police learned of the crime about two weeks later, as Goodenow continued to use the stolen credit card.

On Thursday, Jackson County Judge Ray White ruled that the winnings were the proceeds of illegal activity and must be forfeited under Oregon law.

Goodenow pleaded no contest to forgery, cheating and aggravated theft.

Besides stripping Goodenow of her winnings, White sentenced Goodenow to a month in jail. But White gave her credit for the six months she served earlier this year for possessing methamphetamine.

Goodenow, who maintains she bought the winning ticket with cash from her own pocket and said she plans to appeal, must spend two years on probation.

Probably so jacked up on Meth she didnt realize that the CC could be traced back when she bought the ticket. When she realized her mistake she made up a piss poor lie - domestic abuse. Im glad she didnt get to see a cent of it. She didnt deserve it in my opinion. She used a dead persons CC and then lied to authorities about it.

I say because she lied about how she obtained the winning card, she should donate all of her winnings to a Battered Womens Shelter and have to volunteer her time at the shelter without pay for 1 year as well as go through a 90-day rehab and treatment for her meth problem, and remain on probation thereafter for no less than 5 years. This could be a better way to get creative about the sentencing and lets turn this around to a positive thing so the woman gets to learn a valuable lesson.
 
Honesty is the best policy..should have been honest in the first place and would have gotten a million dollars. A seriously missed opportunity. Tsk Tsk!
 
I agreed with Dixie. She should donated to the womens shelter. they need it much than the lady deserve it. sheesh. I wouldnt buy the tickets with cc but use cash instead.

wow.. really stupid using CC ack... so much for paper trail easily traced....
 
Just another dumb woman jacked up on meth....... almost pathetic the way she tried to cover her tracks.

I seen lottery won't accept credit cards or checks, cash only in the store
in my former area. Anyways, it's not good idea to use CC
from dead person. she is moron!
