Deaf, Blind Student Left On School Bus All Day - News
The mother of a handicapped student said her daughter was left on a school bus for an entire day.
Paula Jo Prince said her daughter Dina got on the school bus for Monroe Achievement Center like any normal day. But just after 3 p.m. she received a call that Dina -- who is blind and deaf -- spent six hours sitting on that same bus.
Prince said her daughter has no way of communicating with anyone, so when no one helped her off the bus, Dina just waited for help.
Dina, who is 20 years old, has the capabilities of a 2-year-old.
Prince said the driver did not realize Dina was still on the bus and it was not until the driver returned to take the students home that she realized Dina was still there.
The superintendent of schools said the incident was an error she will not allow in the future.
Prince said she is thankful her daughter is OK but wants to make sure this same mistake doesn't happen to another family.
She said she will not allow her daughter to ride the bus anymore and hopes the prosecutor will file charges against the school.
School officials said the bus driver resigned from her position and is sorry for making the mistake.
