WARNING about "Myspace" What do you think?

Apparently there is a worm being spread through MySpace using a flaw inside Quicktime... but from what I know, this can be only done through IE. It has been temporally patched for now by Apple.

I'm not a fan of MySpace because of the excessive use of videos, sounds, music, graphics, and flash... NOT because of virus and spyware problems.

People may say that it's nice to be able to make your profile fancy, but that's OVERKILL. It annoys the hell out of me when people overdo their profiles with crap that's not really needed.

A good website separates the heavy and light stuff. How would you like it if someone came to your door and started shoving everything heavy in your arms without you expecting it? Or... would you rather have someone come to your door and say, "Hello, I have this and that. Would you be interested in seeing them?" A good website will start simple and let you decide whether to click on a simple link that leads to something heavy. That's why I like some other blogs because I am in control of what I see or there are limits on what's being shown.

I was invited to MySpace by a friend. I decided to join at my friends' request. After I added a few friends, I came to realize that many of them made their profiles HEAVY. I actually clicked on one friend's profile and then left the laptop to get a drink from the kitchen. Suddenly, loud music could be heard and it was 2 am at my parent's house. WTF!? Apparently, there was so much shit on my friend's profile that the music video didn't load until last. There was a music file, a few flash files, 10 pages worth of animated images, and the music video was last. Boy, could it get any worse? You bet!

If you really wanted me to look at your profile, you would make it interesting and welcoming... not scary and scare me off. :(

That's very true! I get very annoyed when I click to look at a friend's profile, and she or he has tons of music videos, other videoes, tons of pics and graphics, it ends up freezing up my computer, and I have to force-quit Firefox!:rl:

Not to mention that it's the antithesis of good web design. I'm not above using media stuff but I prefer to keep it to one load instead of tons of loads - especially if I'm dealing with an international audience who may not have the same link I have. I like to keep my web pages simple for everyone's enjoyment.

I got my account deleted in few month ago due tons of friend request with all strangers, also got too many messages on my e-mail and asked me to download IM then fucked my computer up and I had to recovery and not feel want join Myspace again.

Robert's computer must be screw up and show his video to admin of Myspace then what he would to do? I bet that Robert is anti-Myspace and ask deaf people to not join here then that real BS.

my wife tried the Myspace massager, but she didn't like it. AIM, Yahoo, MSN, Camfrog are good enough

I registered my MySpace account as a security precaution to prevent anyone from using my e-mail to register their account with my e-mail address. The way I experienced it, MySpace doesn't send an e-mail to me with the link to activate my account. But forums like this will send me an e-mail once I register for my username and for activating my account--which is a good thing and for security reason.

Other than that I don't use MySpace. I'm very security-conscious. :)

Yeah, his computer is probably a piece of shit that just died on him and he's just mad and wanted to use Myspace.com as a scapegoat.

 Yeah, he would! Just let him cry for this own computer.

I use myspace to keep in touch with friends who dont usually answer their email. I do like it and never had a problem with it, nor has anyone i know. i never used the IM on myspace, i got yahoo and AIM why bother with more? there seems to be almost no one who doesnt have either one of these.

I was warned by tv news... they announced that myspace is haunted by scammers... i never had an account with myspace...

I like myspace because it's a way of finding old friends to keep it touch with.. I am so glad.. and it's free! But I am more careful of scammers and strangers so I stay away from them and I don't add. What's annoying to me is that Bands is trying to add you and they don't know you.. sigh! I have blocked bands on myspace but a few that I know of.. :)

Not only is MySpace haunted by scammers. Gmail... Hotmail... AIM... Yahoo... MSN... LiveJournal... are all haunted by scammers. Even my mailbox is haunted by scammers.

It's just a matter of knowing or using your common sense to determine if it's a scam or worth wasting your time.

If some guy tells you that he has $50,000,000 that he's willing to split with you if you give him $50,000... then don't bother. If someone tells you that they have a pill that will make your penis bigger and you haven't heard anything on television about it... don't bother. If someone tells you that they have a perfect method of making money... don't bother.

If all of it really worked, everyone would be doing it. Since not everyone is doing it, it's an obvious clue that everyone isn't dumb enough to fall for it.

When I was not on the line several days. I was checking my yahoo email. Oh my gosh, I got 400 scam emails within few days. Imagine, I do not use yahoo email, it will be skyrocketing thousands scam emails.

It is such pain in the ass to delate all of those scam emails. Read important emails. Oh god, I hate those scam emails. :rifle:

That's probably cause you constantly sign up for all kinds of crap on the internet. That's what happened to my ex roommate, she signed up for all kinds of shit on the internet and now she is plagued with thousands of spams in her email inbox as well as a lot of spyware on her shitty computer. I keep telling her, don't sign up for shit. She don't listen, and then she whines that her computer doesn't work worth shit. I wonder why?!

What I do is, if I wanna sign up for whatever on the internet, I have 1 email address set up just for that, so I wouldn't have to spend time wading through all the spam crap. I have another email address just for personal stuff like emails from family and friends as well as important emails from, say, my VR rep or from my audiologist at the CI clinic. I do not have any spam in my personal email inbox.
